Today in 1982, a return engagement of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas opened at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, where it ran for 63 performances. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a musical with a book by Texas author Larry L. King and Peter Masterson and music and lyrics by Carol Hall. It is based on a story by King that was inspired by the real-life Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas. The original Broadway production was directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune and choreographed by Tune and Thommie Walsh. It opened on June 19, 1978 at the 46th Street Theatre and ran for 1,584 performances. (more...)

BWW Review: Mad Horse Theatre's Chekhov Adaptation Marries Existential Angst and Mordent Wit

South Portland's Mad Horse Theatre closed out its season with a prickly and provocative production of Aaron Posner's adaptation of Anton Chekhov's The Seagull - Stupid F**King Bird - a contemporary "deconstruction" which brilliantly mines the inherent humor as well as the aching ennui of the Russian playwright. Tautly paced by director Christopher Price, the excellent cast gives an immediacy to the play, which Chekhov, himself, actually called a "comedy in four acts." (more...)

BWW Recap: 'Blood of My Blood' Returns on GAME OF THRONES

We're over halfway done with this season of Game of Thrones, and last night's episode entitled “Blood of My Blood” should have probably been called “Home” (the title of Episode 2), considering more characters were reconnected with their past, began to discern who they are at the core versus who they are expected to be, as well as some literally returning home. However, we did get our mandatory dragon shot! Finally we found out where Summer's CGI budget went! Subsequently, we did get a lot of general plot development this week! Yay! Things happened! Arya was able to move past her stick training, Sam and Gilly got to their destination, we saw the return of two long gone uncles, and Jaime was forced out of the Kingsguard and into his book location!
