Happy Birthday Alan Menken! For Disney, Menken has scored The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Pocahontas, each of which won him two Academy Awards. He also composed the scores for The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Enchanted, and Tangled. Menken has collaborated on several occasions with lyricists including Howard Ashman,Tim Rice and Stephen Schwartz. On Broadway, Menken has composed for The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors, King David, Beauty and the Beast, Sister Act, Leap of Faith, and Newsies. His most recent Broadway project, Aladdin, is currently playing at the New Amsterdam Theatre. (more...)

Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company Holds Back on the Block Celebration

After more than a decade of anticipation and renovations, Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company finds its way back to the very block where they were founded over forty years ago. To celebrate their return this one-night-only affair includes live music and dance. On July 30th, 2016 at 8:00 PM, the night begins with a performance lineup at the Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance in the East Village, and then moves to their new dance studio on East 4th Street for a reception. Artistic Director and Choreographer, Enrique Cruz DeJesus, showcases his work this evening with a range of dances from the abstract to the dramatic for which the company is known. (more...)

Longest Running Broadway Revue to Open at Alhambra

Nominated for eight Tony® Awards, Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The Original Broadway cast recording, Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs Of Leiber And Stoller, won a Grammy Award in 1996. After a Los Angeles tryout, the revue opened on Broadway in 1995, running for 2,036 performances, maKing it the longest -running musical revue in Broadway history. It also had a London run in 1996. The show will open at Jacksonville's Alhambra Theatre & Dining on August 3, 2016. (more...)

The Wedding Gift, a world premiere play at the Contemporary American Theater Festival, is a visual feast for audience members, but due to the storytelling method, many audience members are unable to understand the imaginative story.
