BWW Review: Cleveland Orchestra Plays All Beethoven Concert with Yefim Bronfman

A recent trip to New York included a tour of Carnegie Hall. As we entered the famous auditorium someone asked, 'How are the acoustics?' The seasoned tour guide answered, 'they are good, but not as good as Cleveland's Severance Hall.' He went on to say, 'Though this is a beautiful setting, it doesn't compare to Cleveland's Severance Hall. This was followed, about ten minutes later by the comment, 'The orchestras that play here are top-notch, especially the Cleveland Orchestra.' Following the tour I asked if he was a northern Ohio native. He responded that he wasn't, but came to Cleveland at least twice a year to hear the orchestra and always attended their performances in the Big Apple. (more...)

MAURICE HINES TAPPIN' THRU LIFE is a swinging, song and dance musical that celebrates the astonishing showmanship of one of the last great tap dancers of a by-gone era still worKing today and whose collaborators were a jaw-dropping, who's who of theatre, music, film and television. Co-starring the fierce tap dancing Manzari brothers and the all female vivacious Diva Jazz Orchestra, the show is directed by Jeff Calhoun (Newsies, Deaf West's Big River, Grease). Today in 2008, The Little Mermaid opened at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre, where it ran for 685 performances. The Little Mermaid is based on the animated 1989 Disney film of the same name and the classic story of The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen. The musical's book is by Doug Wright, music by Alan Menken and lyrics by the late Howard Ashman (written for the film) and new lyrics by Glenn Slater. The musical had a pre-Broadway tryout in Denver, Colorado in July through early September 2007. The original cast featured Sierra Boggess in the title role of Ariel, Sean Palmer as Prince Eric, Brian D'Addario and Trevor Braun alternate as Flounder, Norm Lewis as King Triton, Sherie Rene Scott as Ursula, Tituss Burgess as Sebastian, Tyler Maynard as Flotsam, Derrick Baskin as Jetsam, Jonathan Freeman as Grimsby, and John Treacy Egan as Chef Louis.
