Kim Davies' STET to Open Off-Broadway at Abingdon Theatre Company in June

Abingdon Theatre Company, in association with The Muse Project, will present STET, a new play inspired by true events, written by Kim Davies and developed by Kim Davies, Jocelyn Kuritsky and Artistic Director Tony Speciale. A limited Off-Broadway engagement will begin previews on June 11, as part of Abingdon's 2015-2016 Season, with an official press opening scheduled for June 23. Tickets are now on sale through July 3. BWW Review: Seattle Shakes' Gimmicky ROMEO AND JULIET Lacks Passion

A few months back another group in Seattle put up an immersive production of "Romeo and Juliet" that blew me away and finally gave me the chance to see a completely solid production that I liked. But even while watching that I knew that Seattle Shakespeare Company would be closing out their season with their own intimate production of the show and I worried that the chances of getting another great production might be tempting fate or the theater Gods or the odds or whatever. Well unfortunately my fears were well founded as this new staging, while having a few stand out supporting performances, ultimately falls flat with a severe lack of passion or love (crucial for a love story) and an overarching theme that at best feels confusing and tacked on and at worst, pretentious. Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) showcases the interplay of music and film with 'LACO @ the Movies: An Evening of Disney Silly Symphonies,' a program of dazzling and delightful Academy Award-winning animation created by Walt Disney Studios between 1929 and 1939, with orchestral scores performed live by Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra led by six-time Emmy award-winning composer Mark Watters, on Saturday, June 4, 2016, 7 pm, at the historic Orpheum Theatre movie palace in downtown Los Angeles. Based on timeless fairy tales and fantastical scenarios, the seven classic animated Silly Symphony shorts include five Academy Award-winners, the first Silly Symphony short produced and directed by Walt Disney, the first commercial color short and the first to utilize a multiplane camera to create depth of field. With animation by a number of Disney legends, these films are set against a backdrop of lively music. From symphonic to jazz, and featuring the Orpheum's 1927 Wurlitzer, one of only three remaining original theatre organ installations in theatres in Southern California, the music by such luminaries as Leigh Harline and Carl Stalling is arranged for live orchestra by Watters and Alex Rannie. Cast Announced for Fiddlehead's SHOW BOAT at Shubert Theatre

Meg Fofonoff and Stacey Stephens, Producing Artistic Directors of Fiddlehead Theatre Company, announced today the cast of Show Boat, the company's first production in partnership with the Citi Performing Arts Center Shubert Theatre, 265 Tremont Street, Boston. Show Boat will run for twelve performances from June 22-July 3, 2016. Co-Directed by Fofonoff and Stephens, Show Boat will feature a cast of 50 starring seasoned international and off-Broadway performers including Kim Corbett (West Side Story, Les Miserables) as Magnolia Hawks, Jeremiah James (The Fantasticks) as Gaylord Ravenal, Lindsay Roberts (The Gershwins' Porgy And Bess) as Queenie, and Brian Kinnard (Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story) as Joe. Show Boat is Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II's epic of life on the Mississippi River with some of the most beautiful and influential music ever written for the stage including 'Ol'Man River,' 'Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man' and 'Bill.' TheatreSquared Receives DDFIA Grant

TheatreSquared Artistic Director Robert Ford and Executive Director Martin Miller announced today a $250,000 grant from the Building Bridges Program of the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Arts (DDFIA). This major, three-year grant will help TheatreSquared reimagine Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in contemporary Damascus, Syria, through a free adaptation that will be developed in collaboration with Syrian theatre director Kholoud Sawaf. The first phase of the project will be a three-week workshop presented as part of the five-play 2016 Arkansas New Play Festival, with staged reading performances at 7:00pm on June 17 at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville and at 8:00pm on June 23 at TheatreSquared in Fayetteville (Walton Arts Center's Nadine Baum Studios). This reading is the first step towards a fully staged production as part of a future season. (more...)

A Red Orchid Extends Ike Holter's SENDER
