The Washington Ballet Adds THEME AND VARIATIONS To 40th Anniversary Celebration, Today

The Washington Ballet (TWB) has added the Finale of George Balanchine's 1947 masterpiece Theme and Variations to its 40th Anniversary Celebration. The work is set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and will provide a grand conclusion to a festive evening of performance and video excerpts that celebrate the 40 year history of The Washington Ballet dance company. The special one-night only production features works by Choo San Goh, Septime Webre as well as other favorites from TWB repertoire on September 30, 2016, 8PM at the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater. Narrated by Julie Kent, the production includes an emotional and inspirational look back at the people and creative works that have come to define TWB throughout its 40 year history.

Beginning 13 September, Hauser & Wirth will present 'In The Wake,' its first exhibition with New York- based Zoe Leonard. The artist's distinctive merging of photography, sculpture, and installation will unfold over three floors of the gallery's townhouse, debuting three new bodies of work that balance the rigorous conceptualism and personal vision for which she has achieved critical recognition. On view through 22 October, the photographs and sculptures in the exhibition probe the generational impact of displacement and what Leonard has described as 'statelessness as both an individual experience and a shared social condition.

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for its world-premiere production of Miss You Like Hell, book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegria Hudes (In the Heights, Water by the Spoonful), music and lyrics by acclaimed singer/songwriter Erin McKeown, directed by Lear deBessonet (Public Theatre's The Odyssey) and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Broadway's Fun Home). Commissioned by the Playhouse and developed during the 2016 DNA New Work Series, the production has been extended by one week, now running October 25 - December 4 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.
