Steppenwolf's Theatre Company's 2013/14 Season Announced

Steppenwolf Theatre Company Artistic Director Martha Lavey announced today the 2013/14 Subscription Season, including two world premieres, an American premiere and two Chicago premieres. The season begins in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre with Zinnie Harris's The Wheel, directed by ensemble member Tina Landau. Up next, ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs Tribes by Nina Raine. In the Upstairs Theatre, ensemble member Yasen Peyankov directs Russian Transport by Erika Sheffer. In April 2014, ensemble member Amy Morton directs the world premiere of The Way West by Mona Mansour. And in July 2014, the season concludes with the world premiere of The Qualms by Bruce Norris, directed by Pam MacKinnon. (more...)

Elks Announces GREASE 'SING ALONG EDITION', 3/8-10

The Elks Theatre will present Grease 'Sing Along Edition' starring none other than goody two-shoes Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) and bad boy greaser Danny (John Travolta) as they sing, dance, and fall in love all over again in this toe-tapping adaptation of the hit Broadway musical. For this special screening audiences are encouraged to grab their friends, dress up, and do what they have always wanted to do: Sing Along. Grease will screen all-weekend March 8th thru 10th and will coincide with the Middletown Area High School's and Elizabethtown High School's stage adaptation being performed the previous weekend. Academic Theatre at CCBC Catonsville celebrates the 75th anniversary of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Our Town for its spring production. A classic American play, Our Town explores the ordinary but rather pleasant lives of the community in the fictional town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. March 14, 15 and 16; 3 p.m., March 16 and 17; 10 a.m. March 18 (SOLD OUT) and 1 p.m. March 19 (Nearly sold out) in the Q Theatre at CCBC Catonsville, 800 South Rolling Road, 21228. A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, concludes its 21st season with the West Coast premiere of GEORGE FARQUHAR'S THE BEAUX' STRATAGEM, a hilarious period yet contemporary "buddy road trip" filled with eccentric characters adapted by THORNTON Wilder and KEN LUDWIG, opening Saturday, April 6 and closing Sunday, May 26, 2013 (previews begin Saturday, March 30). Set in the early 1700's in the English countryside, two girl-crazy young adventures are on the road-trip of their lives when, out of the blue, they find themselves hopelessly in love. Co-Producing Artistic Director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott directs the play, which is the remarkable creation of three playwrights working in three different centuries. Described as "sheer laugh-out-loud fun" (The Free Lance-Star), the play "glides confidently from silly to wry, from the pratfall to the riposte" (The Washington Post) and is "a delightful romp that seamlessly reaches across the centuries to combine the old with the new" (Theater Mania). Due to production conflicts we have been forced to cancel the Friday April 26 evening performance and have added an additional 2 pm matinee on Saturday April 27. Stowell, Director and Editor of The Papers of Abraham Lincoln, on Saturday, March 16 following the 8 p.m. performance at The Royal George Theatre, 1641 North Halsted. AN AMERICAN STORY tells the story of Abraham Lincoln's final day from the perspective of his doctor, Charles Leale, author of LINCOLN'S LAST HOURS, as well Dr. Leale's original report from 1865, which created an international sensation when it was discovered amongst Lincoln's papers in Washington, D.C. in June 2012.
