 The St. Charles Singers' final concerts of the 2014-15 season will feature famous choral arrangements of folk songs from the British Isles and North America in performances at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Ave., St. Charles, Ill.   Over the course of two different concert programs, the acclaimed professional chamber choir, conducted by its founder and music director Jeffrey Hunt, will perform all 25 works from the two-volume collection "Folk-Songs for Choirs." These are traditional songs from England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the United States, and Canada, arranged for unaccompanied mixed choir by noted British composers. The volumes were edited by renowned contemporary English choirmaster and composer John Rutter and published by Oxford University Press. (more...)

Despite explanation, I haven't a clue.), will erase world news, ease arthritis, and make love seem possible again. Well, maybe not all that. As I sat shaking my head in disbelief of what I was seeing and hearing on the Blank Canvas Theatre stage, those around me were howling with uncontrollable laughter. What I was seeing was ridiculous, unbelievable, and basically poorly performed. I'm not sure what was making my audience-mates laugh so hard, but I heard one of the young ladies behind me confide that she had just wet her pants and then I got sprayed by a shower of beer that came forth from her companion's nose as he exploded in laughter. In the eighth annual search for a resident playwright, the division is calling for new dramatic works written exclusively by playwrights of color. Kicking off the landmark season is John Steinbeck's East of Eden, a world premiere adaptation by Frank Galati. Steppenwolf's deep connection with the Pulitzer Prize-winning author can be traced back to the company's 1988 production of The Grapes of Wrath, which Galati adapted and directed. This year, the 4-day festival will offer two main stage performances: an updated format of audience favorite TAP 'N TIME, and a brand new production, Soul Walk, with all original choreography by festival founder Hillary-Marie. The Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce that star of stage, screen and television Valerie Harper will join the cast in the role of the wealthy and stylish Millicent Winter in the delightful Nice Work If You Can Get It on stage July 22 to August 15. Also joining the cast is two-time Emmy Award winner Sally Struthers as the Dutchess Estonia, a temperance enforcer who is set against a gang of bootleggers in this madcap musical comedy set during the Roaring Twenties. This brand-new musical written by Tony Award-winner Joe DiPietro is based on material by Guy Bolton and P. G. Wodehouse and was nominated in 2012 for 10 Tony Awards, winning two. This high-stepping Broadway musical recalls the golden age of American musicals, complete with extravagant dance numbers, glittering Broadway costumes and a treasure trove of George and Ira Gershwin's most beloved songs, including "But Not For Me," "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "I've Got a Crush on You" and "Someone to Watch Over Me." Further casting for the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company's Plays at the Garrick season has been announced. John Dagleish and Zoe Wanamaker are to appear in Harlequinade, with John also joining the company of The Winter's Tale.
