CARRIE THE MUSICAL to Play MCCC's Kelsey Theatre, 10/18-27

From the annals of American horror comes 'Carrie, the Musical,' to be presented by Pierrot Production at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre this Halloween season. Eight performances will be presented, including two midnight shows. Performances are Fridays, Oct. 18 and 25 at 8 p.m., Saturdays, Oct. 19 and 26 at 8 p.m. and midnight; and Sundays, Oct. 20 and 27 at 2 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on the college's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The Room, a 2003 film known as the “Citizen Kane of bad movies,” celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. The cult classic, about a banker (Tommy Wiseau) whose fiancée is sleeping with his best friend Mark (Greg Sestero), has delighted audiences with its cheesy dialogue, awful cinematography, and cringe-worthy love scenes. Greg Sestero was written a memoir, The Disaster Artist, about his experience working on The Room and his relationship with Tommy Wiseau, who also produced, wrote, and directed the film. (more...)

On Sunday September 29 at Sterling's Upstairs at the Federal, Los Angeles theatre actor/singer Will Collyer presented Will Collyer in Concert directed by Mandy Kaplan and with musical direction by Brett Ryback. The 75-minute set featured guest appearances from Kaplan and Melissa Lyons. Collyer is an exceedingly affable 34 year-old openly gay actor who looks more like 19. Cute, drole and consistently mobile, Collyer did a retrospective of his life so far, which included his birth - very amusing segment on the music his mother was listening to in hospital when she gave birth to him - boyhood background, college days, his first kiss with another boy, local musical theatre, and a tribute to his life partner of 14 years... a mixture of banter and songs that he grew up with, some of which he actually performed in shows.
