Rehearsals are underway for Steppenwolf for Young Adults' world-premiere stage adaptation of the bestselling novel, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, adapted by Heidi Stillman. The Book Thief is staged by Hallie Gordon in partnership with Chicago Public Library's One Book, One Chicago and the citywide, season-long Now Is The Time initiative with Chicago Public Library, Facing History and Ourselves and other local cultural organizations. The Book Thief runs October 16 - November 9, 2012 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St); the press performance is on October 20 at 3pm. Author Markus Zusak will participate in a post-show discussion following the 3pm performance on Sunday, October 21. School performances are sold out, and tickets to public performances are limited. Marc Bamuthi Joseph's red, black & GREEN: a blues (rbGb) is an interactive installation and performance that blends spoken word, music, film and contemporary and hip-hop dance to re-imagine a green movement that is inclusive of black and brown voices, and posits that valuing LIFE is the first step to valuing the planet. Itinerant no longer, Chicago Children's Theatre (CCT) and Artistic Director Jacqueline Russell are looking forward to welcoming family audiences this fall to the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn St., Chicago - CCT's first permanent home in the company's seven-year history. CCT presents Harold and the Purple Crayon, based on the beloved children's books by Crockett Johnson, directed by top Chicago director Sean Graney. Performances are October 11-November 4, 2012.
