BoHo Theatre to Stage HAUPTMANN, 3/22-4/21

BoHo Theatre presents Hauptmann, an examination of truth and media indictment, by lauded Chicago playwright John Logan. The production runs March 22nd through April 21st at the Heartland Studio in Rogers Park. Hauptmann is directed by Founding Artistic Director Stephen M. Genovese, who directed the critically acclaimed BoHo productions of The Rainmaker, The Glorious Ones, Sideshow, and I Am My Own Wife. The production features Jeremy Trager in the role of Richard Hauptmann. Trager was recently seen in BoHo's productions of The Spitfire Grill and Tartuffe. Hauptmann represents the Bohemian Pillar of Truth in BoHo's 2012/2013 Season. (more...)

PRINCE OF BROADWAY to Make World Premiere in Tokyo

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, PRINCE OF BROADWAY, the new musical celebrating legendary Broadway director and producer Harold 'Hal' Prince has been postponed indefinitely due to scheduling conflicts. Now in an interview with the Washington Post, Prince revealed that the show will soon premiere at Tokyo's Umeda Arts Theater and will hopefully move on the Broadway after. (more...)

SOUND OFF: GLEE Finds Its FUNNY GIRL, With Help From Idina

A FUNNY GIRL theme and returning guest star Idina Menzel? What more could any self-respecting Broadway baby - or, better yet, gleek - possibly ask for in an episode of GLEE 4.0? Well, last night, we got some out of control college antics - including hallway oil slides and the “Harlem Shake” in a fountain - sage wisdom via Coach Beiste (Dot Marie Jones) and Mr. Schue (Matt Morrison) and even an original tune by AVENUE Q's Tony Award-winning Jeff Marx, to name but a few fabulous features of the show. Yes, last night's GLEE was a continued effortlessly fun frolic and easy, breezy ride in the ever-entertaining musical series, acting as a sweet salve to last week's heart-stopping school shooting and ensuing Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) drama. PASSION's Melissa Errico on Vocal Rest; Cast Album Recording Delayed

BroadwayWorld has confirmed that the Classic Stage Company's production of Passion has delayed the recording of it's upcoming cast album, because Melissa Errico, who plays Clara in the show, is out on vocal rest. Errico has been out of the show since March 21 and the cast will not head to the recoding studio until she has fully recovered. In the mentime, Amy Justman has been filling in for Errico on stage. Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis will collaborate on A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Story, a new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, announced Arlene Shuler, President & CEO of New York City Center. This Encores! Special Event, directed by frequent Sondheim collaborator John Doyle, and conceived by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle, will run for seven performances, November 13 - 17 at City Center. City Center's annual Gala Benefit will take place on Thursday, November 14 and will include a post-performance dinner at the Plaza Hotel. (more...)

HERE LIES LOVE Extends Again Through June 2 at the Public

The Public Theater announced another two week extension today for the world premiere musical HERE LIES LOVE, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, HERE LIES LOVE began performances on Tuesday, April 2 and has been extended twice due to high demand. The new 360 degree musical will now run through Sunday, June 2 in The Public's LuEsther Theater, with an official press opening on Tuesday, April 23. (more...)

Two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone headlines the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra's 2012-13 NJSO POPS season finale in Newark and New Brunswick, June 1-2. The legendary diva, who last appeared with the NJSO in 2009, will perform songs from her latest album, 'Far Away Places,' backed for the first time by full orchestra. To a crowd of more than 2,500 people, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) declared the winners of TUTS' eleventh annual Tommy Tune Awards on the evening of Tuesday, April 16, at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Adding extra excitement to the evening, the award ceremony's namesake and nine-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune made a special appearance to kick off the show and to present the night's top honor. Brooke Shields to Direct CHICAGO at Hollywood Bowl; Runs 7/26-28

Brooke Shields has been announced as the director of the Hollywood Bowl's upcoming production of CHICAGO, which holds the record as the third longest running show in Broadway history. Rob Fisher has also been announced as the conductor of the production. Shields starred in CHICAGO both on Broadway and in London's West End and this marks her directing debut. Fisher's association with the show began with the 1996 Broadway revival and he continues to be supervising music director of CHICAGO productions around the globe. (more...)

The Broadway at Birdland concert series will present the very first UKE NIGHT! tonight, April 15 at 7pm, featuring Ukulele performances by Broadway performers Marc Kudisch, Howard McGillin, Nancy Anderson, Clarke Thorell, Lauren Molina, Jason Poole and others. The evening will be hosted by Jeffry Denman. Proceeds will go towards The Daniel Barden Family Fund. Daniel was one of the children lost in the Sandy Hook Tragedy. (more...)

Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, On Your Toes will have guest music direction by Encores! founding music director Rob Fisher and will play seven performances, from May 8 - 12 at New York City Center, W. 55th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues).
