MAKING GOD LAUGH Launches American Heartland Theatre's 2012-13 Season, 9/7

Kansas City's American Heartland Theatre in Crown Center has announced its 2012-2013 season, which will include five Kansas City Premieres and one favorite holiday hit. Starting off the season is comedy about family by one of AHT's favorite playwrights, Sean Grennan, MAKING GOD LAUGH. The season also includes a riotous adaptation of the thriller, THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. The holidays have everyone laughing with the return of the Sisters of Mount St. Helens in NUNCRACKERS. SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE Opens at A.D. Players, 9/7

The play, which won the 2007 Edgar Alan Poe Award for Best Mystery Play, will be the Houston professional premiere. Written by one of the most produced playwrights of our time, Steven Dietz, who is currently in residence at the University of Texas Austin, the play had its World Premiere at Arizona Theatre Company in a co-production with Pasadena Playhouse in 2006, and has since played throughout the country. Adapted from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel by Stephen Canny and John Nicholson and directed by Gary C. Hopper, this hysterical farce features three actors playing over twenty roles from Doyle's most famous Sherlock Holmes story. Players has announced its 2012-2013 season, opening with the Houston professional premiere of Steven Dietz's award winning play, Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, and followed by the Houston premiere of The First Church of Texaco by Andrew William Librizzi and the Southwest Premiere of Malcolm and Teresa by Cathal Gallagher. These productions are complemented by sequels to audience favorites, Sanders Family Christmas, written by Connie Ray and conceived by Alan Bailey with musical arrangements by John Foley and Gary Fagin, and Anne of Avonlea by Jeannette Carlisle. Nashville Children's Theatre Kicks Off 81st Season With SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE

Steven Dietz's Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure has been performed all over the country, but when Nashville Children's Theatre presents it as the opening production of its 81st season, it will be the first time the play has been presented by a theatre for young audiences. 'Ninety-seven percent of the public believe what they're told, and what they're told is what the other chap's been told - and the fellow who told him read it somewhere,' announces marketing maven Ambrose Peale to would-be businessman Rodney Martin in 'It Pays to Advertise.' The Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company presents this screwball comedy from September 19 through October 13, with an 8:00 p.m. curtain. It is the usual Wednesday through Saturday schedule, except there is no show on Wednesday, October 3, and an added show on Sunday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, September 19 is an after-show opening night party at Aleathea's Restaurant at The Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean Street, where patrons have the opportunity to mingle with actors and fellow theater lovers while indulging in complimentary hors d'oeuvres. There is an after-show Q&A with the cast and director on Friday, September 28, and on Friday, October 12, is an American Sign Language interpreted performance. (more...)

Way Off Broadway to Host THE CAMPAIGN CAPER, 10/24-25

In addition Way Off Broadway's regularly scheduled Mainstage and Children's Theatre seasons, the theatre also hosts a number of special events each year. Some of the most popular events at the Frederick theatre are Way Off Broadway's interactive murder mysteries where the audience gets involved and helps to solve the case at hand. In recent years, the mysteries have been set to the backdrop of a competitive cooking show, a drag night club, and a talent contest, much like American Idol. Way Off Broadway and Justin M. Kiska, the author of the theatre's interactive mysteries, are adding a new case to their crime files this year with The Campaign Caper, which will have performances Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th. In 1933, an expedition set out for the Indian Ocean, in hopes of creating the greatest film ever made. Instead, they brought back a giant captive gorilla. This was a terrible idea. KONG: A Goddamn Thirty-Foot Gorilla is a genre-bending deconstruction/parody of the classic King Kong story, with commentary on the 1933 film, audience participation, dinosaur fights, and a very large ape on a very small stage. BWW Reviews: SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE is a Fun Tangled Web of Danger and Intrigue

To kick off their 2012-2013 season, A.D. Players is presenting Steven Dietz's Edgar award winning play Sherlock Holmes: THE FINAL ADVENTURE. The play itself is an adaptation of American actor William Gillette's 1899 play, which borrows Irene Adler from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Scandal in Bohemia" and Professor James Moriarty from "The Adventure of the Final Problem." Irene Adler is an opera singer and a superficial villainess in her own right, tempting Sherlock Holmes' typically nonexistent romantic feelings. Professor James Moriarty is the malevolent architect of most of England's iniquitous scum, which earns him Sherlock's admiration for being a completely reserved and ultimately clever man. (more...)

The Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company has announced that it has received a $1,500 grant from the prestigious Puffin Foundation to help fund two performances of '“Emma Goldman: My Life.'
