Based on the film Passione d'Amore directed by Ettore Scola

Based on the novel Fosca by I. U. Tarchetti

PASSION, winner of 4 Tony Awards including Best Music and Lyrics, Best Book, and Best Musical, features music and lyrics by the acclaimed Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Company, Follies, Into The Woods, Gypsy) and book by James Lapine (Falsettos, Into The Woods, Sunday In The Park With George).

PASSION opened on Broadway in 1994, and received its London revival in 2010 at the Donmar Warehouse as part of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday celebrations.

Stephen Sondheim's PASSION revolves around a handsome Italian solider, Giorgio, separated from his beautiful mistress, who is shattered and ultimately changed by the unconditional and obsessive love of Fosca, his Colonel's chronically ill and plain cousin. Her unrelenting passions force him to re-evaluate his beliefs about love and attraction between two human beings.

BWW Blog: Jesse Swimm of Tuacahn's MARY POPPINS - Good-Bye, Good Goody Girl…BWW Blog: Jesse Swimm of Tuacahn's MARY POPPINS - Good-Bye, Good Goody Girl…
by Guest Blogger: Jesse Swimm - Oct 25, 2013

Tonight we said good-bye to our good friend Miss Millie Dillmount. 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' was the third show in our season here at Tuacahn that we learned and it came straight off the heels of opening 'Mary Poppins' and 'Starlight Express'. It was a whirlwind of an experience as we had only about 4 weeks to get it ready for an audience. What made it even crazier was that we could only rehearse for about 5 hours a day as we were doing our other two shows at night, oh and did I mention it was about 115 degrees during the day at the time and we were rehearsing outside for about half of the process. At the helm of this monumental task was our director/choreographer Jeffrey Denman. Now I have known Jeffry for a couple years but have never had the opportunity to work with him so I was very excited when he showed up to share his 'Millie' with us. I have to say if it had been anyone other than Jeffry, I don't think we could have pulled it off. His Passion was immense and as he put us through the paces and shared his vision of Hi-Boys and Flappers we all had this sense that our production was going to be a spectacular endeavor. Everything was going smoothly for me until a bit of tragedy hit my life and I had to fly home unexpectedly to celebrate the life of my beloved Grandma, Rose Ebenhoch and her passing on June, 19th. It was an extremely difficult time for me but I couldn't have asked for a more supportive group of friends to help me get through it. Once I returned and got back into the swing of things with the show it seemed as if the elements were plotting against us, from sweltering heat one day to complete downpours during tech, it made the process that much more special for us. But eventually we got through it all and opened the show to an overwhelming response of praise and cheers for us. (more...)

Academic Theatre at CCBC Catonsville to Present THE RUBY SUNRISE, 11/8-12Academic Theatre at CCBC Catonsville to Present THE RUBY SUNRISE, 11/8-12
by BWW News Desk - Oct 24, 2013

'The Ruby Sunrise' is a compelling and interesting take on a little known piece of television trivia -- Philo Farnsworth, a farm boy and self-taught scientist, developed the first electronic TV system, but General David Sarnoff took the credit. Rinne Groff's play, which loosely chronicles the incident, moves from a farm in Indiana, where Ruby as a young girl struggles to turn her dream of the first all-electrical television system into a reality, and then jumps forward to a McCarthy-era New York TV studio where Ruby's heirs fight over how her story should be told. Groff adds more complexity by making the major characters female and imagining how women would have handled the phenomenon of television: from early idealism and sparks of genius, to promises fulfilled and compromises brokered, and beyond. Pacific Symphony Presents BEETHOVEN'S TRIPLE CONCERTO Performed by the Eroica Trio, 11/14Pacific Symphony Presents BEETHOVEN'S TRIPLE CONCERTO Performed by the Eroica Trio, 11/14
by BWW News Desk - Oct 24, 2013

Orange County, Calif.—Oct. 24, 2013—Commanding center stage for Pacific Symphony's upcoming concert is one of the most daring innovations in concerto form--“Beethoven's Triple Concerto”—performed by one of the most successful all-women chamber ensembles in the world, the Eroica Trio. Receiving multiple Grammy nominations for their eight CDs and winning the prestigious Naumburg Award, the Eroica Trio “plays with technical flair, raw driven energy and high spirits,” said The Wall Street Journal. “There is an edge of the seat intensity to every note they produce,” wrote The New York Times. The orchestra is led by one of Canada's brightest young conductors, Jean-Marie Zeitouni, recipient of the Juno Award for Classical Album of the Year, who opens the evening with Beethoven's Overture to “The Creatures of Prometheus.” The Symphony is then joined by the women of Pacific Chorale to perform Debussy's “Nocturnes,” three movements inspired by impressionist paintings, and the evening concludes with Britten's famous “Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra,” in honor of the composer's 100th “Beethoven's Triple Concerto” takes place Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 14-16, at 8 p.m., in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. A preview talk with Alan Chapman begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25-$109; for more information or to purchase tickets, call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org. (more...)
