We Remember Eli Wallach
by Roundabout Theatre Company - Jun 26, 2014

Roundabout mourns the loss of our dear friend, Eli Wallach, who passed away on June 24th at the age of 98. Eli was known to many for his huge breadth of film work, taking on character roles of all kinds over the course of his 60-year career. He was deservedly awarded an honorary Oscar for those performances in 2010. But Eli's first love was the theatre, and he returned to it Over and Over again in the midst of his success on screen. He was an early favorite of playwright Tennessee Williams, appearing in the original productions of both The Rose Tattoo and Camino Real. Eli was frequently paired on stage with his wife, Anne Jackson. They would play together in everything from Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros to Jean Ahouilh's Waltz of the Toreadors, becoming a leading couple of the American theatre. We were lucky to have Eli join the Roundabout in 1992 with his performance in Arthur Miller's The Price at the Criterion Center on Broadway. (more...)

Safer Insulation Removal Now Being Offered by Contractors New in Jersey
by BWW News Desk - Jun 2, 2014

Many factors can lead to the need for attic insulation removal. Wet, moldy, dusty, feces- and chemical-laden insulation can be hazardous to the health of the family. Cellulose insulation in particular needs to be removed by a professional because cellulose absorbs moisture when the humidity is high; it gains weight, settles, and loses its R value. When hot, dry conditions prevail, cellulose bakes in the attic, dries out and sheds its toxic chemical dust. This cycle repeats Over and Over again. AttiCare, NJ insulation installers company, have announced today they now offer safer better insulation removal. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Touching and Hilarious ANGELS IN AMERICA: PERESTROIKA at Epic
by David De Almo - Jun 16, 2014

Go see 'Angels in America: Perestroika' at Epic Theatre Company. There isn't a more straightforward way to say it. The possibly lesser known 2nd Half of Tony Kushner's Epic play about the AIDS epidemic in 1980's New York is playing currently at Epic's larger space at 82 Rolfe Square in Cranston, and it's superlative. It's shocking how funny Kushner can make the citizens of his New York, without making it seem trite or irreverent. (more...)

Before VENUS IN FURS was a twinkle in David Ives' eye, there was ALL IN THE TIMING, a collection of one-act plays with a range of subjects and themes - all funny and entertaining. How else do you describe a mix of Trotsky and The Honeymooners? Though the collection of plays premiered Off-Broadway in 1993, and a few were written before I was born, they are still side-splitting. In disbelief? Well, take a gander at this interview with Paige Kiliany, a twenty-something who prefers ALL IN THE TIMING to Saturday Night Live. How's that for current? (more...)

BWW Reviews: GA Shakespeare's ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS is as Good as a Summer Comedy Gets
by Matt Tamanini - Jul 16, 2014

There has barely been a bad word said about this show since it debuted on Broadway in 2012 (racking up seven Tony nominations), but because I didn't know much about it, I took a while to settle into the comedic rhythm of Georgia Shakespeare's production of ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS. However, once I realized that the show was far more farcical than I at first realized, it became one of the most laugh-out-loud, joyous nights of theatre I have had in years. So, if you go and see this show (which you absolutely should) simply give into the goofiness; you will thank me when you do. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Stars of MSMT's SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS Reimagine Their Roles
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold - Jul 16, 2014

'What I love that Patti [Colombo] is doing with this show is that she is not making it a sepia-toned romance,' declares Jarid Faubel, the actor who portrays Adam Pontipee in Maine State Music Theatre's new production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, directed and choreographed by Patti Colombo, which opens its three-week run July 17th. His co-star, Heidi Kettenring, concurs: 'Millie is one of the most challenging musical roles I have done of late. I am basing her character on a line early in the play where she says that she buried her parents on the Oregon Trail and finished the trek herself. She is feminine, but strong enough to have made that journey alone.' (more...)

BWW Recap: SYTYCD Takes Trip to Broadway with ON THE TOWN, HEDWIG's Spencer Liff (Updated with Pictures & Special Announcement)
by Matt Tamanini - Jul 10, 2014

This week's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE had a very Broadway feel to it with Josh Bergasse, the choreographer of the upcoming ON THE TOWN revival, staging a Top-20 routine to the show's anthem 'New York, New York' (the one by Bernstein, Comden, and Green, not Kander and Ebb). As we learned last week, this season's winner will earn a spot in the musical's ensemble.
