But it was her expert tap dancing skills in Dames that really put her on the map. Breaking News: Jason Sudeikis Will Lead Classic Stage Company's DEAD POETS SOCIETY Off-Broadway

Classic Stage Company (Artistic Director John Doyle and Managing Director Jeff Griffin) announced today that Jason Sudeikis will star as John Keating in the world premiere of Dead Poets Society, a new play based on the beloved 1989 film. Written by Academy Award winner Tom Schulman, adapted from his screenplay, and directed by John Doyle, Dead Poets Society is set at a rigorous all-boys preparatory school renowned for its ancient traditions, where the unconventional Professor Keating inspires his students to defy conformity, and to live passionately. Performances for Dead Poets Society will begin Thursday, October 27 at CSC (136 East 13thStreet) with an official press opening Thursday, November 17. As it embarks on its 10th Anniversary Season, Sideshow Theatre Company is pleased to announce the playwrights for "The Freshness Initiative," the company's commissioning and new play development program, now in its third year. The 2016/17 season will feature public readings of brand new plays by J. Nicole Brooks, Selina Fillinger and Isaac Gomez. The readings will take place at Victory Gardens Theater during May, June and July of 2017. Two of the world premiere productions featured in Sideshow's 2016/17 Season were developed through "The Freshness Initiative," Philip Dawkins' The Happiest Place on Earth and Calamity West's Give It All Back. Production photos have been released for the professional European premiere of  Rodgers & Hammerstein's ALLEGRO. The musical opened on Broadway in 1947, their third collaboration for the stage following Oklahoma! and Carousel, and has been revived by producer Danielle Tarento and director Thom Southerland, the award-winning team behind Grey Gardens, Grand Hotel, Titanic, Parade and Mack & Mabel. Southerland is working on a new adaptation of the book and the production will have brand new orchestrations. The production runs 5 August-10 September at the Large at Southwark Playhouse. (more...)

Opera San Jose opens its 2016-17 season with Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor. Donizetti drew inspiration for this opera from Sir Walter Scott's The Bride of Lammermoor. The story revolves around a feud between two families, the Ashtons and the Ravenswoods. Lucia Ashton loves Edgar, master of Ravenswood, whose land her family has taken by force. When Lucia's brother, out of political necessity, forces her into an arranged marriage, there are dire consequences. Donizetti expertly combines the epic story of Lucia with some of the most wonderful melodies from his pen and the most affecting mad scene in theatre. (more...)
