The first Broadway revival of the 1982 Tony Award?-winning musical based on the classic film 8 1/2. Antonio Banderas, Laura Benanti, Jane Krakowski, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Chita Rivera lead the cast.



Nine revolves around one central character, Guido Contini (played by Banderas in his Broadway debut), a film director in the Fellini mold. He is contracted to write and direct a film, but is unable to come up with a suitable plot. After recent box office failures, he finds himself drifting towards a nervous breakdown. Guido finds himself examining his past flawed relationships with the many women who have come through his life and the struggle to act his mature age of 40--as opposed to nine.

Two days after Typhoon Merbok descended on Guangdong province, three theatre professionals from New York descended on the American International School of Guangzhou to begin a ten-day intensive program for twenty-Nine students from the fourth to the twelfth grade. In our first three days, we cast each participant and taught all the music and half the staging and choreography for our hour-long show. Much like the rain, our pace was strong and driving, and much like the Ninety-degree temperatures, our energy was high and sweat-inducing. (more...)

The Port Authority of NY & NJ, Westfield and GrowNYC today announced the return of the Greenmarket to the World Trade Center area. This new market, to be known as the Greenmarket at Oculus Plaza, opens today, June 20 th. The original market, established in the shadow of the Twin Towers in 1984, was forced to close when two planes hit the towers on September 11, 2001. This is a significant and emotional homecoming, especially for many of the returning farmers that were present on the day of the attacks and are, finally, coming back to this location. (more...)

With more than 35 events presented in 13 venues throughout the city, including U.S. and New York premieres and Nine commissions, the eighth annual international festival will explore transcendence, interior illumination, and faith in the human spirit, as exhibited through artistic expression across continents and centuries. The multidisciplinary festival takes its name from a quotation by Estonian composer Arvo Part: "Icouldcomparemymusic to white light, which contains all colors.
