The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation will be holding their inaugural Global Champions of a Mother's Fight Gala Awards Luncheon at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in NY on October 29th 2012. The event will honor longtime leaders in the fight to end pediatric AIDS, and will be presented by Arianna Huffington, who will serve as the Master of Ceremonies, leading a thought provoking panel with the event's three honorees, Alex Gorsky, CEO of Johnson & Johnson, Amy Robbins, founder of the Nduna Foundation, and Cookie Johnson, Magic Johnson's wife and board member of the Magic Johnson Foundation. THE LION KING's Rod Thomas on the Autism-Friendly Performance

Last fall, Theatre Development Fund (TDF) piloted the new program, Autism Theatre Initiative, as part of TDF's Accessibility Programs (TAP), to make theatre accessible to children and adults on the autism spectrum, and their families. They presented the first-ever autism-friendly performance of a Broadway show at Disney's landmark The Lion King on October 2, 2011 and followed that up with an autism-friendly performance of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins on April 29, 2012. On September 30, the cast of The Lion King took part in another autism-friendly performance, and Rod Thomas, an actor in the show, wrote about the experience from his perspective. CAROLS FOR A CURE is the annual two-disc holiday CD compilation of original songs and holiday classics which benefits BC/EFA. These CDs boast the best voices from the worlds of Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours. A full track list for this year's 14th edition has not yet been announced, but the cast of Broadway's The Lion King was already hard a work recording their track for the album. Meredith Vieira to Make Cameo in Broadway's THE LION KING

During 'Millionaire's' 'Broadway Week,' this season, contestants will have the chance to win tickets to see a Broadway show in addition to their 'Millionaire' money. As part of the specialty week, cast members from 'The Lion King' will play on 'Millionaire' for charity and Meredith Vieira will make a cameo appearance at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre in The Lion King's iconic opening number, 'Circle of Life,' in celebration of the production's 15th anniversary. Disney's The Lion King is celebrating its third smash engagement in Houston, which concluded on Sunday, August 12 presented by Broadway Across America and the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Disney Theatrical Productions and Gexa Energy Broadway at the Hobby Center previously announced the long-awaited return engagement of Disney's The Lion King to Houston. The show leaps onto the Hobby Center stage tonight, July 10 for a limited engagement of five weeks through Sunday, August 12. The Lion King's sold-out eight-week Houston premiere engagement in 2002 at Jones Hall was followed by a sold-out six-week return engagement in 2006 at the Hobby Center. (more...)

Harlem School of the Arts Presents Disney's THE LION KING KIDS/JR., Now thru 6/2

For over nine months, the Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) has worked with Disney Theatrical Group to develop adaptations of Disney's musical The Lion King for young performers. Aubrey Lynch is an original cast member and former associate producer of the Broadway production, and he has been overseeing HAS's workshop presentations of Disney Theatrical Group's newest in-development musical for young people. This process has become a vehicle for HSA to further its mission and develop a fifth discipline, musical theatre. (more...)

Disney's The Lion King will make its South American premiere in São Paulo, Brazil. T4F (Time For Fun), will present the production with its opening night on March 7th, 2013 at the Teatro Abril. The Lion King in São Paulo will mark two firsts: as the largest stage musical ever presented in Brazil and the first time the show has been performed in Portuguese. The Disney and Cameron Mackintosh musical, MARY POPPINS will be produced in Mexico City by OCESA. The production will be performed for the first time in Spanish and will begin performances on November 14th, 2012 at the Telmex Cultural Center, in Mexico City. (more...)
