Jane Austen Weekend at the Utah Shakespeare Festival Set for 8/15-17

In honor of the world premier of Sense and Sensibility at Utah Shakespeare Festival, the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) is sponsoring a "Jane Austen Weekend" August 15-17. Attendees will enjoy all the Festival has to offer with backstage tours, literary seminars and attendance at Twelfth Night and Sense and Sensibility. The society will also host a special opening social, a Jane Austen Society Luncheon and lecture led by JASNA Utah chapter president, Aspen Anderson. The Old Globe's 2014 Gala 'Summer Splendor' Raises Over $1 Million

Over 380 guests attended The Old Globe's 2014 Gala, "Summer Splendor," on July 26 on the Globe's historic campus in Balboa Park. When final proceeds and expenses are tallied, the black-tie event is expected to net more than $1 million for the theatre's artistic and educational activities. Nina Doede, Deni Jacobs, and Sheryl White served as Co-Chairs for the Globe Gala, and lead underwriters for the evening were Audrey Geisel, Darlene Marcos Shiley, Conrad Prebys and Debra Turner, and Sheryl and Harvey White, with many other guests making generous gifts. Tara Bissett was always interested in the arts. Born in Montreal and raised in Montreal, Ontario and the US, her parents encouraged her from an early age to involve herself in art classes and choir in school. Having traveled overseas just after high school, Bissett returned to Montreal for university and has remained ever since. Bissett was shy as child, so although she loved the idea of theatre, she was too shy to go out for lead roles or solos and instead performed in the ensemble, keeping herself in the background. She focused primarily on the visual arts, eventurally earning a degree in Fine Art. (more...)

China Will Get Musical Makeover with $323 Million Theatre Center in Langfang

China is about to get more musical, according to a recent report from China News Service. Langfang, a city outside of Bejing will soon get a $323 million musical center- an investment made by Ovation Cultural Development group and the local government of Hebei province. Set to open in 2017, the 1 million square-foot facility will include not only theatres, but other arts related ares. Before the project is completed, the new company will present a Mandarin version of Into the Woods, which will play Langfang in Novemer before embarking on a Chinese tour. (more...)
