If you were asked to name Nashville's Top Ten Favorite Musicals, what show would you name as number one? Perhaps surprisingly, when that question was posed to a group of Nashville theater folk, the number one-ranked show is Les Miserables (but perhaps it's not that surprising, since Victor Hugo's book was a huge hit in the American South upon its initial publication in this country), followed by A Chorus Line, Gypsy, Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods claiming the remaining slots in the Top Five. Steffanie Leigh Joins MARY POPPINS Tour as 'Mary,' 2/8

Producers Thomas Schumacher of Disney Theatrical Productions and Cameron Mackintosh are pleased to announce that Steffanie Leigh will star as 'Mary Poppins' in the North American tour of MARY POPPINS. Leigh, who previously understudied the title role in the touring production, replaces Caroline Sheen, who will play her final performance in Omaha at the Orpheum Theatre on Sunday, February 6th. Leigh officially takes over the role in Omaha on Tuesday, February 8th before the show arrives at the Opera House in Boston on Thursday, February 17th for a limited engagement of five weeks through March 20th. The opening night is Friday, February 18th at 8pm. The Boston engagement of MARY POPPINS is presented by arrangement with Broadway Across America - Boston and is a subscription offering of the Lexus Boston Area Dealers Broadway Across America - Boston Series. Runners up included San Francisco's Michael David (2nd place); Matthew McFarland (3rd place); Emily Goglia (4th place); and Reba Buhr (5th place). The categories ranged from theater and performing arts centers, to museums and galleries, to symphonies and dance companies (along with many more -- there were 15 in all). Many organizations rallied their audiences to vote, and more than 6,200 people cast their ballot in this year's contest and remarkably, nearly one-third of all votes cast were for Paper Mill Playhouse. The winners were announced today online at JerseyArts.com and via email to all the voters. Recipients will formally receive their awards in a ceremony at The Governor's Conference on Tourism, held March 23-25, 2011 in Atlantic City, NJ. (more...)
