ETHEL is a glimpse into the magnificent and very complicated life of the legendary stage and film star ETHEL Waters. ETHEL will close the Alliance's Hertz Stage season at the Alliance Theatre. Centenary College Theater Department's Nextstage Repertory presents Into the Woods April 28 through May 8 in the Sitnik Theater of the Lackland Performing Arts Center.  Into the Woods was created by Stephen Sondheim and writer James Lapine and it originally premiered in 1987 on Broadway.  The musical is set in an alternate world of four of The Grimm's fairy tales.  Into the Woods tells the tale of a childless baker and his wife who are desperate to have a baby.  They attempt to lift the curse that has been placed on the Baker's side of the family by a witch because his father stole magic beans.  Along the way they encounter Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk.  Each one of the characters have a desperate desire that they will do anything to achieve, but when wishes don't go the way they thought they would, the characters realize something that had never occurred to them before; that maybe wishes aren't always what they appear to be. First Folio Theatre has announced its 2016-2017 season, kicking off with the Chicago premiere of DR. SEWARD'S DRACULA, running October 5 through November 6, 2016. For its winter show, First Folio Theatre presents the World Premiere adaptation of the adventure novel CAPTAIN BLOOD, running January 25 through February 26, 2016. The true story behind SILENT SKY completes the indoor season, running March 29 through April 30, 2017, and Shakespeare's most pastoral comedy, AS YOU LIKE IT takes the outdoor stage for the 21st year of First Folio's Shakespeare Under the Stars summer series, running July 12 through August 20, 2017.
