Andrea Marcovicci Releases SMILE Album; Performs at Cafe Carlyle, 10/2-27

Andrea Marcovicci, the acclaimed singer and actress, has announced the release of her first CD of new material in five years, Smile, on her own label Andreasong. The new recoding her is based on her show of the same name that will be performed at New York's famed Cafe Carlyle from October 2 to 27 after hit runs in Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco. The disc can be purchased at CDBaby.com and Marcovicci.com. The CD will also be available at live performances, starting with Andrea's final West Coast performances of Smile at The Gardenia in Hollywood on September 14 and 15. (more...)

This past Friday afternoon I read that this person has been meeting with producers to consider the possibility of appearing on Broadway, in order to, 'expand her brand by taking to the stage.'  That evening I heard the 82-year-old Marilyn Maye, after nearly ninety minutes of superlative interpretations of musical theatre classics from the likes of Jerry Herman, Frank Loesser and Kander and Ebb, tell her completely enthralled audience that it's still her ambition to one day be on Broadway, before emoting a beautifully vulnerable 'Losing My Mind' that segued into a classy and celebratory 'I'm Still Here' that brought just about the entire packed Metropolitan Room house to its feet in one of the most adoring ovations I've ever seen. This musical comedy is the story of an aging baseball fan who makes a deal with the Devil so his beloved hometown team can beat the Yankees in the race for the pennant. From the songwriting team of The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees is filled with hit songs including "Two Lost Souls" and the sultry favorite, "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets." The Paper Mill Playhouse production will slide into Seattle this April. The creative team includes direction by Mark S. UM Department Of Theatre Welcomes Tommy Tune

The University of Miami Department of Theatre Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences regularly hosts master classes and workshops with artists, actors, producers, casting directors, designers, and directors from around the world. Past guests have included Jerry Herman, Angela Lansbury, John Mayer, Lucie Arnaz, Laurence Luckenbill, André DeShields, and Michael McElroy among others. This spring semester, Tommy Tune will visit with UM theatre students for a workshop. Known as one of the most prolific director/choreographers of the twentieth century, Tommy Tune has enchanted audiences over the past 50 years. Television, film and stage writer Mark Saltzman will also collaborate with Mr. Tune and UM students. (more...)

Damn Yankees is headed to The 5th Avenue Theatre! This musical comedy is the story of an aging baseball fan who makes a deal with the Devil so his beloved hometown team can beat the Yankees in the race for the pennant. From the songwriting team of The Pajama Game, Damn Yankees is filled with hit songs including "Two Lost Souls" and the sultry favorite, "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets." The Paper Mill Playhouse production will slide into Seattle this April. The creative team includes direction by Mark S. Hoebee (Paper Mill's Producing Artistic Director), music direction by Ben Whiteley, and choreography by Denis Michael Jones. (more...)
