Today we are once again speaking with a world renowned living legend all about his phenomenal career on Broadway and in Hollywood in honor of his new 54 Below engagement later this month, titled STEPPIN OUT', the one and only Ben Vereen. Besides sharing what lucky attendees can expect from his 54 Below shows, Vereen also shares preliminary plans to bring a new biomusical to Broadway some season soon as well as the forthcoming release of a star-studded documentary all about his iconic show business legacy planned to be released later this year. Additionally, Vereen reflects on a number of recent milestones and looks back at some of his most memorable movie musical work in honor of the 45th anniversary of the release of SWEET CHARITY last month, plus the brand new Blu-ray editions of FUNNY LADY and ALL THAT JAZZ now available. Plus, Vereen shines a light on his ongoing patronship of the arts and spotlights the importance of arts education in schools via the nationwide high school competition series leading up to the yearly Ben Vereen Awards while also clueing us in on some of his upcoming theatre projects, including directing a regional production of HAIR and more. As if all of that were not enough, Vereen also comments on some recent small screen and big screen appearances including his turn on the final season of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER opposite Neil Patrick Harris and sharing the screen with Betty White on HOT IN CLEVELAND, not to mention the smash hit success of the ensemble Chris Rock comedy TOP FIVE. Tony Maudsley (ITV1's Benidorm) will play Edna Turnblad in the major 40-week UK tour of Hairspray which will open at Curve theatre in Leicester this autumn. He will be joined by TV and stage actress and presenter Claire Sweeney (Educating Rita, Guys and Dolls) as Velma Von Tussle, Olivier Award nominated actor and much-loved Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan (BBC1 Tumble) as Wilbur Turnblad and British singer and West End performer Brenda Edwards (Chicago, We Will Rock You, The X Factor) as Motormouth Maybelle. Freya Sutton will reprise the role of Tracy Turnblad alongside established musical theatre performer Jon Tsouras (A Chorus Line) who will play the role of Corny Collins. Dex Lee (The Scottsboro Boys) will play Seaweed, Ashley Gilmour (Miss Saigon) will play Link Larkin, Lauren Stroud (Wicked) will play Amber, Monique Young (Top Hat) will play Penny, Karis Jack (Urinetown) will play Little Inez, Adam Price (Hairspray) will play Male Authority Figure, Tracey Penn (Made in Dagenham) will play Female Authority Figure and Layton Williams (Bad Education, Billy Elliot) will play Duane. Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre has announced plans for its upcoming Musical Theatre Fast Track Performance Camp, as part of its summer production of the musical All Shook Up. Auditions for the show and the camp are slated for Monday, March 16, at 3 p.m. Camp dates are June 22-July 3 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp is designed for a total of 16 students, both males and females ages 12-16, to be double cast in the show. Rehearsals for All Shook Up will be held July 6-23. (more...)

Managing Director Diana Lynn Wiley and Artistic Director Patrick Klein worked with Joey McDaniel to create the new public face of Palo Alto Players. "Joey is a great friend of Palo Alto Players," said Wiley. "Audience members would recognize him from his role as Igor in last season's Young Frankenstein, and he's also playing Uncle Fester in our upcoming production of The Addams Family. Today in 1966, Sweet Charity opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 608 performances. Featuring music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon, the musical was directed and choreographed for Broadway by Bob Fosse starring his wife and muse Gwen Verdon. It is based on Federico Fellini's screenplay for Nights of Cabiria. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1966, where it was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, and also ran in the West End as well as having revivals and international productions. (more...)

WICKED's second national tour, 'The Munchkinland Tour,' flew into the Fox Theatre on Wednesday, February 18 to play a 3-week engagement, marking the show's fourth engagement at the historic Atlanta venue.
