In celebration of the highly anticipated BROADWAY BARES: STRIP-OPOLY on Sunday, June 20, series creator Jerry Mitchell was the featured guest on Seth's Broadway Chatterbox on Thursday, June 17th, at 6:00 PM. While there, Mitchell talked about all of his current slate of projects. Among them, Mitchell has just redone the opening number of LOVE NEVER DIES, featuring bearded ladies and other 'freaks' with a new song while making other trims throughout the show. The highly-anticipated CATCH ME IF YOU CAN will have a reading next week with 'amazing' new material and the same leads that played the show from Seattle (Kerry Butler, Norbert Leo Butz, Aaoron Tveit and Tom Wopat). The chorus has been expanded from 4 girls to 10 amongst other changes. The show is prepping for January rehearsals for a Broadway bow. Mitchell also just directed a reading of BALLROOM with Tyne Daly that he is directing and developing for a hopeful 2011 production. (more...)

Today, I am recapping the 2010 Tony Awards as it was broadcast on CBS last night - and on NY1 for the first hour. I was particularly privileged to have my interviews conducted for BWW and TonyAwards.com used throughout both telecasts and was quite moved by the evening in general. But, first: let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start - as Ted Chapin, President of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization and the first presenter of the evening would surely recall from his friend Oscar Hammerstein - who, of course, also mentored Stephen Sondheim who personally selected last night's Best Actress winner Catherine Zeta-Jones for the revival of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. Tuesday night, hundreds of children were enchanted by the touring production of Beauty and the Beast, now playing at the Durham Performing Arts Center through Sunday, June 13. As I wandered through the lobby before the show and during intermission, I often had to carefully sidestep a tiny Belle in requisite yellow ball gown and tiara. What was most remarkable though was how enchanted the adults were, myself included. (more...)

While she become most-known for playing the outrageous Miss Hannigan to much acclaim, it was her epic meltdown on two Tony telecasts from the early 1980s that have become infamous in theatre legend.
