The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that seven plays will be developed at the 2010 National Playwrights Conference under the leadership of artistic director Wendy C. Goldberg. The selected playwrights will spend the month of July at the O'Neill's Waterford, Connecticut campus developing and presenting staged readings of their work during the NPC's 46th season. Box office and online ticket sales open Wednesday, June 9; advance ticket sales will be available to O'Neill Members beginning Monday, May 17. (more...)

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Alan Cumming has cut ties with SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off The Dark. Cumming was to play the musical's villain, the Green Goblin. Cumming elected to depart the production this weekend, according to the report, due to new scheduling conflicts with The Good Wife, for which his role was recently expanded. (more...)

Jobsite Theater, resident theater company of Tampa's Straz Center (was Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center) is touring their award-winning Pericles: Prince of Tires in a showcase format to New York's HERE. Pericles: Prince of Tires is a comic rock mob musical based on William Shakespeare's Pericles, Prince of Tyre. Joe Popp (dogs on ice, The Hornrims; MAXWELL) has paired his power-punk music and oddball sense of humor with the estimable talents of perennial Jobsite wordsmiths Neil Gobioff & Shawn Paonessa (The Curse of Milhaven, The March of the Kitefliers) to create an ass-kicking good time.
