RedTwist Opens DRACULA, 10/1RedTwist Opens DRACULA, 10/1
by BWW News Desk - Sep 30, 2010

This October, come face-to-face with evil. London, 1893: insanity is spreading like a red infection over the East End. Human ashes spill from an abandoned ship. Wild-eyed streetwalkers recite Shakespeare sonnets to feed their starving children, and mad killers send bloody notes to newspapers promising a flood of innocent victims. Through the dense fog in the dark streets of a dying city, stalks a force of monstrous evil, as a bloodied band of outsiders sacrifice all to save their country from an unspeakable fate. Redtwist Theatre presents Dracula: A TRAGEDY, a new adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic horror novel that asks if justice can live in the same world as terror, and what happens to a country when its nightmares come to life. You are invited to enter Dracula's madhouse: you will see the teeth; you will smell the decay; you will feel the fear. (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Sep 30, 2010

Jack Betts, under the direction of Carlyle King, offers an unforgettable portrayal of legendary actor, John Barrymore, a man of colossal talent and contradictions. Considered by many to be one of the greatest Shakespearean actors of all time, the production is set in 1942, the final year of John Barrymore's life and takes place on the stage of a Broadway theatre, where the actor is struggling to recreate his performance in the title role of Shakespeare's Richard III. Playwright William Luce (The Belle of Amherst) shows us the many facets of this complicated man and dazzling actor: the wives and the women...the drink and the profanity... the notoriety and the glory...in a portrait that Jack Betts brings brilliantly to life. Spotlight On NYMF: Tom Hewitt & THE GREAT UNKNOWNSpotlight On NYMF: Tom Hewitt & THE GREAT UNKNOWN
by Pat Cerasaro - Oct 8, 2010

A friendly giant known best for his devilish and, at times, demonic lead roles in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW as Frank N. Furter, the eponymous Dracula and the first replacement cast of THE LION KING as Scar - in addition to his current essaying of the role of the lecherous lawyer Billy Flynn in the smash hit Broadway revival of CHICAGO - time and perseverance has aided Tony-nominated actor Tom Hewitt in carving out a career on Broadway quite unlike most others in existence. In this comprehensive conversation we discuss his many marvelous stage performances on Broadway and beyond thus far, including his new lead role in the New York Musical Theater Festival musical THE GREAT UNKNOWN written by William Hauptman (PUMP BOYS & DINETTES) and Jim Wann (BIG RIVER) and directed by Don Stephenson. In addition to a thorough discussion of that new NYMF musical, we also talk about working with Julie Taymor on the PBS film FOOL'S FIRE and Broadway's THE LION KING, what the insane ROCKY HORROR LIVE experience was like from a stage perspective, his many stints in CHICAGO, as well as working with co-stars like Matt Morrison, Kelli O'Hara, Brenda Braxton, Charlotte D'Amboise and Chip Zien. We also discuss his feelings on Dan Savage's IT GETS BETTER campaign and what he thinks of GLEE taking on the garters, boas and stilettos of Frank & Crew when they do their ROCKY HORROR tribute later this month. Performances of the original bluegrass musical THE GREAT UNKNOWN have already begun so be sure to grab some tickets a the link below and catch the show on Sunday if you haven't done so yet!
