SPIDEY Update: Auditions Begin in April!

It seems the producers are making good on promises of a resurrected SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off The Dark. According to the Actors Equity website, the production will begin holding ensemble auditions on April 13, 2010 (female dancers) and April 14, 2010 (male dancers) and April 16 (singers). According to the notices, the auditions will take place at 520 Ripley Grier. (more...)

Pericles: Prince of Tires is a comic rock mob musical based on William Shakespeare's Pericles, Prince of Tyre. Joe Popp (dogs on ice, The Hornrims; MAXWELL) has paired his power-punk music and oddball sense of humor with the estimable talents of perennial Jobsite wordsmiths Neil Gobioff & Shawn Paonessa (The Curse of Milhaven, The March of the Kitefliers) to create an ass-kicking good time. Legendary funnyman Mel Brooks is set to be a featured guest at the TCM Classic Film Festival in April. As part of the festivities, TCM will partner with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce as they honor Brooks with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which marks its 50th anniversary this year. Brooks will also introduce a festival screening of his first feature film, The Producers (1968), which earned Brooks an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. (more...)

Evan Rachel Wood Bows Out of SPIDER-MAN

Variety has confirmed that Evan Rachel Wood, who had been set to star as Mary Jane Watson in the much delayed Broadway production of SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off The Dark, has bowed out of the production altogether. A statement out from the producers claims that her departure is due to a 'scheduling conflict' but that a search is 'underway to find a new Mary Jane to join the rest of the cast in the production.' La Jolla Playhouse is proud to announce its 2010/11 season resident theatre company: San Diego Asian American Repertory Theater (SDAART). This marks the third year of the Playhouse's landmark Resident Theatre Program, and the newly-appointed company will be in residence in the Theodore and Adele Shank Theatre (formerly the Mandell Weiss Forum Studio) in August/September, 2010, during which they will present Julia Cho's heartwarming drama BFE.
