Do I Hear a Waltz?

Leona, an unmarried American secretary 'of a certain age,' goes on a vacation to Venice where, under the spell of that enchanted city, she falls in love. The gentleman is an attractive, middle-aged shopkeeper, whose attentions give flight to her deepest dreams of romance. Too soon, however, he openly informs her that he is a contented family man, and Leona's hopes are dashed. She can, for a short time, harness romance, yet realizes that such a relationship would have nowhere to go. Still, might it be better than never having loved at all? This timeless story, which is the basis of the movie 'Summertime' starring Katharine Hepburn, remains a bittersweet testament to the complexities of the heart.

BWW Reviews: Kritzerland Soars Once More with Rodgers and Hammerstein Evening
by Don Grigware - Nov 6, 2012

And what 'A Grand Night for Singing' it turned out to be! Not opening on the usual note, Bruce Kimmel presented a video of his YouTube web series Outside the Box, Season 2, episode 1 guest starring Hal Linden, who was present in the audience. Hilarity is at the core here as Linden gets a phone call asking him to appear as Father Marren in The Exorcist the Musical, a true horror - no, not horrible - horror musical. The second scene is the actual shooting of his scene with Regan spewing green vomit to the music of one ridiculously funny original tune. Fun stuff which may be viewed on YouTube! (more...)

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: An Arthur Laurents Appreciation
by Pat Cerasaro - May 6, 2011

With last night's news of the passing of one of the greatest dramatists of the 20th century, if writer/director Arthur Laurents is remembered a thousand years from new for only penning the books for WEST SIDE STORY and GYPSY, that alone would stand as a testament to the theatrical legacy he leaves behind. In this special digital remembrance of his life and legacy, we take a look back at all the plays, musicals and films that he had a hand in - WEST SIDE STORY and GYPSY, both revived in the 21st century under his direction, to ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES and NICK & NORA on Broadway; HOME OF THE BRAVE, THE SNAKE PIT, Hitchcock's ROPE, THE WAY WE WERE and THE TURNING POINT in Hollywood - as well as the countless hours of interviews and talks that he gave over the course of his long and storied career.
