If you like musicals with amazing dancing, powerful singing and farcical comedy - and who doesn't? - get your tickets now for Crazy for You, on Stratford's Festival stage, as this show will sell out this summer. Crazy for You is an interesting invention. George and Ira Gershwin's old songs from the 1930s were gathered together, and while people love the tunes and lyrics, the stories that go with them are dated. So in 1992, playwright Ken Ludwig wrote a script incorporating the Gershwin favourites. (more...)

The State Theatre Center for the Arts announces the 2014 FREDDY Awards, the 12th year of the program, recognizing and rewarding exceptional accomplishments in the production and performance of musical theater in high schools in Lehigh and Northampton Counties, Pennsylvania, and Warren County, New Jersey. The 2014 program will feature 31 schools, the most in the programs history, and will include a first time appearance by Lincoln Leadership Academy Charter School who will present In the Heights in April. Nominees Announced for the 2014 Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards

For 20 years, the Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards have been a celebration of outstanding student achievement in high school musical theatre in Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence counties. These awards recognize individual artistry and honor the dedication and professionalism of students and educators and their schools' commitment to performing arts education. The committee is proud to announce this year's nominees, who will be honored at a private reception at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center on May 18. At the Nominees Reception, nominations will be read by Broadway veteran Lenora Nemetz, and nominees will receive a medal and commemorative certificate. The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Center on May 21 and will feature performances by several adjudicated productions. Former honorees will serve as presenters and tribute awards will be given to those who have greatly influenced the Henry Mancini Musical Theatre Awards. A Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Mr. Phil Inman, and Mrs. Ginny Mancini will be in attendance. (more...)

The 2014 Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards ceremony took place at Paper Mill Playhouse on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:30pm with an audience of over 1,200. Princeton Day School came out on top, winning Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical for their production of Urinetown. The 5th Avenue Theatre Announces High School Musical Theater Awards

High school students from across Washington State packed Benaroya Hall tonight for The 12th Annual 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater, a high school version of the Tony Awards, proudly sponsored for the tenth year by Wells Fargo with additional support from Alaska Airlines. The house was packed with 2,000 teenagers, dressed in costume representing their schools' musical theater productions, who cheered for their peers as they performed musical excerpts and accepted awards honoring top student achievements in musical theater. The acclaimed event, directed this year by Mathew Wright, handed out awards in 21 categories ranging from Outstanding Overall Musical Production to Outstanding Lobby Display. (more...)

BRADY BUNCH's Ann B. Davis Passes Away at 88

Ann B. Davis, best known for her portrayal of Alice in The Brady Bunch, passed away after a fall at the age of 88. A close friend of Davis confirmed the news to Entertainment Tonight. She slipped and hit her head, which caused severe trauma. She passed away in a San Antonio hospital. (more...)
