Iconotheatrix presents Carrie: The Musical October 20-23, 2016 at The MATCH (Midtown Arts and Theatre Center Houston). In this revamped, contemporary version of the famous (and infamous) 1988 production, Carrie: The Musical follows a young woman, Carrie White (Courtlin Parisher) with telekinetic powers. An outcast at school, where she is bullied viciously for her differences, Carrie is also lost at home, with a fervently religious mother, Margaret White (guest artist, Rachel Landon) whose love traps her in its maw. When PE teacher, Miss Gardner (guest artist Morgan Kaupert), kind classmate Sue Snell (Jackie Cortina), and boyfriend Tommy Ross (Brendan Morrow) reach out to try and help Carrie, it seems that for once, Carrie might have a shot at being accepted. But Chris Hargensen (Cassidy D'Agostino), the class's most vicious bully, and Billy Nolan (Alex Kerry), her not-so-bright boyfriend, have other ideas. Pushed to the brink, Carrie's powers threaten to overwhelm her, and devour everyone around her in flame. (more...)

BWW Review: 4 MINUTES 12 SECONDS Is Must-See Contemporary Commentary at Old Fitz Theatre
by Brodie Paparella - Sep 26, 2016

4 Minutes 12 Seconds is THE show you need to see, and one of the best pieces of theatre we've reviewed this year. Take your kids, your partner, your friends, your siblings. Theatre as an art form is known for entertainment, but the best theatre is made to challenge, to comment and to contribute to transitions of culture. This production by Outhouse Theatre Co at Old Fitz, is precisely that: gripping, contemporary and powerful. Zooming on the parents of a promising young man caught in the centre of a online video scandal, audiences face questions about parenthood, pornography, consent, domestic discord, and the obsession of the modern generation to share. A five-star, fierce piece of theatre. (more...)

BWW Feature: New Theatre Jacksonville Technical Director Designs Austen
by Michael Lipp - Sep 26, 2016

Jon Jory's adaptation of Jane Austen's PRIDE & PREJUDICE posed significant scenic and lighting design challenges for Theatre Jacksonville's new Technical Director, Tim Watson. 'You've got about 25 locations and you can literally change from one to another on a single line,' Watson explains. 'There's no way you can do full sets for each location, but it's written that way - to be minimal. It's difficult to jump between so many locations and be so fast and so fluid. Jon Jory didn't want black-out scene changes, so it's more of an environment rather than actual locations.' Director Amy Canning agrees and calls the show 'very minimalist, but seriously complex with lots of moving parts and pieces.' (more...)
