XANADU to Close Signature's 22nd Season, 5/6-7/1

Signature Theatre closes out its 2011/12 season sporting funky legwarmers and wielding neon glow sticks with the Washington premiere of the musical comedy hit Xanadu. Beginning performances on May 6th, Xanadu will be transforming Signature's MAX Theatre into one big disco-ball heaven - complete with satin shorts and roller skates! Nominated for four Tony Awards® (including "Best Musical"), the musical features a Book by Douglas Carter Beane, with Music and Lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. Locals Star In GEORGE M! At The Westchester Broadway Theatre, 6/7 - 7/1

When George M! opens at the Westchester Broadway Theatre this Thursday, June 7, it will be adorned with a little local flair! Four members of this fantastic cast are Hudson Valley locals! Melodie Wolford, of Putnam Valley, who plays Nellie Cohan (George's mom) is a teacher at the Peekskill Movement Center. Victoria Dennis (nine years old) plays the Little Girl, which isn't her first role at the Westchester Broadway Theatre; she played Annie in Big River, she also will appear at the Apollo Theatre this Summer. Gabriella Palminteri, (ten years old) from Bedford, who alternates in the role of Little Girl, is also no stranger to the WBT stage, Last year she appeared in the Musical, Suessical as Mrs. Mayor. Colin Pritchard, of Harrison, is returning to the stage at the Westchester Broadway Theatre, the ensemble member of George M!, was most recently seen in our 2005 production of Sugar. (more...)

'Stealing Time' will play as a special event in the 2012 New York Musical Theater Festival at the PTC Performance Space. 'Stealing Time' is the second NYMF project for Hyams coming off the success of 'Greenwood' starring Andrea McArdle in the 2011 New York Musical Theater Festival. The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Patrick Willingham) will take its MOBILE SHAKESPEARE UNIT on tour again this July with a production of RICHARD III, directed by Amanda Dehnert. The three-week tour, July 16 to August 3, will bring free Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts before a sit-down run at The Public Theater, August 6-25. American Dance Machine for the 21st Century (ADM21) will present a workshop presentation of four classic musical theater and film dance numbers on Thursday, June 28 at New York City Center, Studio 4 at 6 pm. Each piece has been coached by artists intimately involved in their original productions; numbers from Contact, A Chorus Line, Lovely to Look At and Jerome Robbins' Broadway will be presented. The evening will be directed by Artistic Director Margo Sappington and feature live music with musical direction by Tedd Firth. ADM21 is a new not-for-profit dance company founded by Executive Director Nikki Feirt Atkins, dedicated to creating a living and vibrant archive of classic and current notable musical theater choreography. The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop is now accepting applications for its first year composer/lyricist class. The August 1, 2012 deadline is quickly approaching and applicants are asked to send in the requested materials as soon as possible. The Workshop begins September 17, 2012, and runs through June 2013. A recipient of the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre Award, the Lehman Engel Musical Workshop consists of approximately 250 composers, lyricists and book writers who are actively writing new works for the musical theatre.
