The good news of nominations in 20 Blue Star Award categories was delivered to high schools throughout the metropolitan area and outlying communities. The Emmy-winning soap One Life to Live, will air it's highly anticipated 3 part musical episode next Friday, May 14, and production for it is in full swing. The three-day event, which SoapNet calls 'A sequel of sorts to 2007's 'Prom Night: The Musical,' is entitled 'Starr X'd Lovers' and features numbers from The Black Eyed Peas, among other famous artists. The broadcast will feature One Life to Live regulars, in addition to Broadway's Jason Tamm, who was recently seen as 'Paul' in the revival of A Chorus Line, in two numbers. Hamingson) announced complete casting for the one-night-only benefit reading of Ariel Dorfman's play SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER: Voices From Beyond The Dark, adapted from Kerry Kennedy's book of the same name, on Monday, May 3 at 7 p.m. All proceeds from the reading will benefit the relief efforts of Habitat for Humanity in Chile. Volunteer opportunities across the city are being coordinated by Hands-On Nashville (www.HON.org), while social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter are being used by individuals to marshal support and help for friends who are victims of the devastation. This show does things that your traditional musical does not do. That is where I begin to be perplexed. SPRING AWAKENING has what we might term traditional Broadway songs, including ballads and tuneful melodies. This is where Duncan Sheik on music and Steven Sater on lyrics certainly let us down. It also has some of the most exciting, and fetching rock songs or ‘indie rock' ever presented on a Broadway stage. This is where Sheik and Sater make SPRING AWAKENING a rock concert with theatrical surroundings. Or, perhaps they made a theatrical show and infused it with a rock concert sensibility. (more...)

S.T.A.G.E.-the annual Southland Theatre Artists Goodwill Event-marks its 26th presentation with a change in concept and a return to a familiar venue. Rather than its traditional salute to the music of a particular composer, this year's S.T.A.G.E. is entitled ORIGINAL CAST and will feature artists from theater, television and cabaret performing songs they originated in musical productions.
