Some of the most anticipated events at the Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre and Children's Theatre are part of its family breakfast series that all began with the wildly popular Breakfast with Santa (and Mrs. Claus). From that holiday breakfast came the yearly Princess Breakfasts where guests are transported to a world full of magic, fairytale characters, and, of course, princes and princesses. The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre is once again preparing to start work on an area premiere production. Having been the first to bring shows such as Jerry Herman's La Cage aux Folles, Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl - The Musical, Mel Brooks' The Producers, as well as a regional theatre premiere production of The Wedding Singer to western Maryland audiences, Way Off Broadway is adding the musical comedy Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to the list of firsts. This August, from the 18th through the 21st, the Broadway Dreams Foundation (BDF) will host its Summer Performing Arts Intensive in Philadelphia! During the intensive, attendees will receive first-rate training in acting, dance and vocal performance daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. by savvy Broadway veterans who will share their invaluable insider knowledge on the skills needed to make it in show business. Students will also learn how to improve their audition skills (song selections and cold readings) and attend classes geared toward college and career planning (headshots and resumes). At week's end, all participants will have the opportunity to perform alongside their Broadway idols in a 'one night only' concert event. Tony-winner Alice Ripley (Next To Normal) will participate as the guest teacher for the intensive. (more...)
