ESPN will televise five marquee high school basketball events and a College Basketball Signing Day Special between Monday, March 31 and Friday, April 18, to conclude the 2013-14 high school basketball season. Duke signee Jahlil Okafor, No. 1 on the ESPN 100, uncommitted recruit Myles Turner, No. 2 on the ESPN 100, and a plethora of other ESPN 100 signees highlight the rosters in three prestigious all-star games held in NBA arenas - The McDonald's All American Game at the United Center in Chicago, Ill., Nike Hoop Summit at Moda Center in Portland, Ore., and Jordan Brand Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. A field which includes seven of the top 8 high school teams in the country, and ten ESPN 100s competing with their high school teams for the last time, participate in the DICK'S Sporting Goods High School National Tournament in New York City, which concludes at Madison Square Garden. The POWERADE Jam Fest puts boys and girls McDonald's All Americans individual talents on display in the annual skills competition. ESPNU's College Basketball Signing Day Special completes college basketball's recruiting season with a one-hour special which evaluates college basketball's 2014-15 incoming freshmen and top programs' recruiting classes. Wendy Whelan, whom The New York Times has called 'America's greatest contemporary ballerina,' has danced with New York City Ballet for nearly 30 years. With the company, she has mastered Balanchine's neo-classical repertory, dance classics such as Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake and created works with many of today's leading choreographers. Following hip surgery and a successful recovery period, Whelan, 46, will return to City Ballet this spring season and will dance her final performance with the company on October 18. (more...)

The New York Philharmonic and the Music Academy of the West have entered into a four-year partnership that will create unique and intensive opportunities for selected Music Academy Fellows to train with New York Philharmonic musicians and Music Director Alan Gilbert in Santa Barbara and New York. Alan Gilbert, the New York Philharmonic, its Assistant Conductors, and musicians will have a presence at the Music Academy Summer Festival for training and performances each summer for four years beginning in 2014, culminating in a joint concert with the New York Philharmonic and Academy Festival Orchestra celebrating the Music Academy's 70th anniversary in 2017. Flagship's self-titled debut is out now on Bright Antenna Records and is garnering critical acclaim: Consequence of Sound praises the album's “pastoral folk rock graces of bands like Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear, with occasional detours into wide-eyed pop catharsis” and American Songwriter describes the band as “reminiscent of the best of The National and old school U2.” The new album was recorded with celebrated producer Ben Allen, best known for his work with Animal Collective, Washed Out and Youth Lagoon. RPM Productions announces their original production La Journee des Tziganes, The Day of the Gypsies, to take place at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport Ave., April 11 - 12. The vibrant music and dance production features the John Jorgenson gypsy jazz quintet live onstage with the bravura choreography of RPM director and choreographer Gordon Peirce Schmidt. The two-day only production will take place on Friday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m., and last 90 minutes including one 15-minute intermission.
