This summer, Steppenwolf ensemble member-and former artistic director--Randall Arney returns to Chicago to stage Greg Pierce's hit play, Slowgirl, which premiered at Lincoln Center Theater in 2012. Arney reunites with fellow ensemble member William Petersen in the role of Sterling (the two first appeared on stage together in Steppenwolf's 1980 production of Balm in Gilead); the two-hander also includes Rae Gray (The Book Thief) as Becky. A playwright with 'impressive writing chops' who 'builds suspense, releases tension through laughs and grabs your attention with life-or-death stakes' (NY1), Pierce's plays later travels to Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where Arney currently serves as artistic director, as part of the 2013/14 season. Newborn and child photographer Jane Goodrich today announced the launch of her new book available on Amazon - 'Capturing Every Day Life: The no-nonsense, cheese-free, read-while-they-nap, easy-as-pie guide to taking top-notch, world-class photos of your kids,' CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform; 64 pages; $24.99. The noted New-York based children's photographer teaches parents, grandparents, or anyone who wants to take the best photos of children, how to create amazing images which will provide a documented memory for a lifetime. Goodrich begins the book by giving tips on how to choose a camera based on exact needs - outlining camera types, lenses and what to look for when shopping. Goodrich's easy-to-read and understand format then explains how to work with light and control it - including how to create the 'magic triangle' of aperture, depth of field and ISO. The next chapter examines composition and the difference between a snapshot and a truly artistic photograph. She reviews the rule of thirds, focal points, leading lines and natural frames. The chapter titled 'Best Time and Place for Photos' is full of helpful tips for creating the best photos of kids, while the 'Advanced Techniques' chapter helps a more experienced photographer learn how to gain more creative control over their images. An hour-long version of the concert will premiere tonight, July 18 at 10 p.m on WLIW21, Friday, July 26 at 10 p.m. on THIRTEEN and CPTV, and Tuesday, July 30 at 10 p.m. on NJTV. 'From Broadway With Love' was a concert of healing for the Newtown community where composers, musicians and more than 100 stars of Broadway came together with over 300 students from several Newtown dance groups, the Sandy Hook Elementary School 3rd and 4th grades and the Newtown High School Chamber Choir.
