Chesapeake Shakespeare Company Extends Shakespeare Run Through 7/31

Due to overwhelming response and sold-out performances, Chesapeake Shakespeare Company-in-the-Ruins will be extending the performance run of A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) at Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park in Ellicott City, MD. Performances are at 8:00 pm Thursday-Saturday and 6:00 pm on Sunday-- now through July 31, 2011. (more...)

Conductor Vasily Petrenko Leads LA Phil at Hollywood Bowl, 7/26 & 7/28

Russian-born Vasily Petrenko, the youngest Principal Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, comes to the Hollywood Bowl in two programs of classical concerts, Tuesday, July 26, and Thursday, July 28, at 8 p.m. He is joined in the Tuesday program by Russian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk, who made his Bowl debut last summer; this time performing Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto. The program includes AntonŪn Dvo?Šk's Carnival Overture and also includes Jean Sibelius' Second Symphony. Thursday's program features LA Phil Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour perfoming Sibelius' Violin Concerto. Also on the Thursday program are Dvo?Šk's masterpiece, Symphony No. 9, 'From the New World,' and Mikhail Glinka's Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla. (more...)

Lynne Meadow and Barry Grove have announced that Tony and Emmy Award winner John Lithgow returns to Broadway in the Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere production of THE COLUMNIST by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan. In this new play, Lithgow plays noted newspaper columnist Joseph Alsop. This limited engagement will begin previews on Tuesday, April 3 and open Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at MTC's Samuel J. Hartford Stage Announces THE TEMPEST to Close 48th Season

Shakespeare's final play, The Tempest, will be the final MainStage production of Hartford Stage's 48th season. The selection is the first by Hartford Stage's new Artistic Director, Darko Tresnjak, who partners with Managing Director Mike Stotts to lead the Tony Award-winning theatre. Tresnjak will direct the production, which will run at Hartford Stage May 10 - June 3, 2012; it will be his 21st professional Shakespeare production. (more...)

Today we are talking to the man who makes all of the magic available to see in the Shakespeare's Globe Film Series actually happen onstage in the first place - such as this week's stunning showing of HENRY IV: Part 2 on August 18 -Shakespeare's Globe Artistic Director, Dominic Dromgoole. In addition to a thorough discussion of all aspects of the unprecedented series of performance captures that have taken place at Shakespeare's Globe so far - seven and counting - we also discuss many aspects of the Bard himself and what productions like HENRY IV: Parts 1 & 2 - both of which he directed - have to say to a twenty-first century audience.
