The 2nd annual fundraising event TWENTYWONDER, A Carnival of the Mind, presented by Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles (DSALA) and hosted by the L.A. Derby Dolls at the Doll Factory (1910 West Temple Street) will be held on Saturday, July 9The evening will be a bursting expo of art, science, music and comedy, plus an all-star roller derby grudge match - "TwentyWonder Derby Thunder" - featuring the All-Star Teams, the LA Ri-Ettes vs. the San Diego Derby Dolls' Wildfires. Proceeds will benefit DSALA's efforts to support those born with Trisomy 21/Down syndrome living in greater Los Angeles. (more...)

The Broadway smash hit musical THE WIZ, with book by William F. Brown and music by Charlie Smalls, will blow audiences away July 7 through August 7, 2011 at Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana. The production will open Sunday, July 10 at 7 p.m. Stacey Flaster will direct and choreograph. THE WIZ first opened on Broadway in 1975 and ran for four years (1600 performances). It made a historic footprint as the first large-scale big-budget musical featuring an all-African American cast. THE WIZ won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and was produced in 1978 by Motown/Universal as a film starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lena Horne, and Richard Pryor. (more...)

Russian-born Vasily Petrenko, the youngest Principal Conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, comes to the Hollywood Bowl in two programs of classical concerts, Tuesday, July 26, and Thursday, July 28, at 8 p.m. He is joined in the Tuesday program by Russian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk, who made his Bowl debut last summer; this time performing Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto. The program includes Antonín Dvo?ák's Carnival Overture and also includes Jean Sibelius' Second Symphony. Thursday's program features LA Phil Principal Concertmaster Martin Chalifour perfoming Sibelius' Violin Concerto. Also on the Thursday program are Dvo?ák's masterpiece, Symphony No. 9, 'From the New World,' and Mikhail Glinka's Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla. (more...)

Lynne Meadow and Barry Grove have announced that Tony and Emmy Award winner John Lithgow returns to Broadway in the Manhattan Theatre Club world premiere production of THE COLUMNIST by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner David Auburn, directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan. In this new play, Lithgow plays noted newspaper columnist Joseph Alsop. This limited engagement will begin previews on Tuesday, April 3 and open Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at MTC's Samuel J.
