LA's Next Great Stage Star 2013 Announces Star Judge Lineup thru 2/10

With the recent success of competition programs such as American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and, of course, Dancing With The Stars, competitions such as the now successful Stage LA's Next Great Star have caught the attention of many a young hopeful. Although the first of the 6 week competition has passed, the competition has five more weeks of competitive talent lined up. New Year's Day afforded me the opportunity to watch four hit Broadway musicals that had been adapted for the screen: My Fair Lady, Camelot, Funny Girl and Hello Dolly. My Fair Lady and Camelot had a number of things in common: same director, lyricist, composer, leading lady, supporting male actor and, most important for me, the same choreographer: Hanya Holm, the modern dancer from Dresden who came to the United states to open a school and stayed for the rest of her life, dying at the age of 99!. Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, today announced complete casting for the company's upcoming new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning musical PASSION, to be directed by John Doyle (director of the acclaimed Broadway revivals of Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and Company). Joining previously announced Melissa Errico (Clara), Judy Kuhn (Fosca) and Ryan Silverman (Giorgio) in the production are Stephen Bogardus (Colonel Ricci), Jeffry Denman (Lieutenant Barri), Jason Michael Evans (Private Augenti), Amy Justman (understudy), Ken Krugman (Lieutenant Torasso), Orville Mendoza (Sergeant Lombardi), Tom Nelis (Doctor Tambourri) and Will Reynolds (Major Rizzoli/Ludovic). PASSION is slated to begin performances on February 8, 2013 at CSC (136 East 13th Street), with an official press opening scheduled for Thursday, February 28, playing a limited engagement through Sunday, April 7. Rob Ruggiero Named TheaterWorks' Producing Artistic Director

After a nationwide search, the board of directors of TheaterWorks is very pleased to announce that it has selected Rob Ruggiero as TheaterWorks' new Producing Artistic Director. Mr. Ruggiero, who has been affiliated with TheaterWorks for 20 years and has served as its Interim Artistic Director since March of 2012, will assume his role as of January 1, 2013. Michael G. Albano, the president of TheaterWorks' board, stated that the search committee had reviewed approximately 130 applications for the position. Although the committee was impressed by these applicants' enthusiasm and variety of experience, Mr. Albano explained that "the committee came to the conclusion that no applicant could match Rob's combination of directorial excellence on a national level, his management and fundraising skills and instincts, his knowledge of the community, and his exciting vision for the theater's future."
