Fresh from a triumphant run on Broadway, Mamet's wicked and scathing courtroom comedy makes its West Coast premiere at A.C.T. With his trademark verbal pyrotechnics, Mamet unleashes two attorneys and the firm's young associate as they scramble to decide if they want to represent a wealthy white man accused of assaulting a black woman. Shabana Azmi kicks off yet another national tour in New York for her latest theatrical project, Broken Images, written by Girish Karnad and directed by stage personality Alyque Padamsee. The play is being presented in New York by the non-profit organization, Bitiya, in association with the Indo American Arts Council on Friday, October 8 at 8:30 p.m. at New York University's Skirball Center (566 LaGuardia Place). All proceeds from the play will benefit educational programs for under-served girls. (more...)

The Independent Theater Bloggers Association (the 'ITBA') announced the 2011 recipients of the Third Annual Patrick Lee Theater Blogger Awards. Patrick Lee was one of the ITBA's founding members. Patrick passed away suddenly last June, and was an erudite, passionate, and tireless advocate for theater in all its forms. Patrick was also the ITBA's first awards director, and was a regular contributor to Theatermania and TDF Stages. (more...)
