BWW Review: HAND TO GOD is a Pitch Black Comedy Perfectly Executed

HAND TO GOD is a fiendishly funny black comedy about the divided human soul written by Robert Askins. It was originally produced Off-Broadway in 2011 and 2014 and made it's Broadway debut in 2015, receiving five Tony Award nominations, including for Best New Play. Described by Askins as an 'irreverent puppet comedy...about a possessed Christian-ministry puppet,' the play takes it's title comes from a Southern expression about honesty. Capital T is currently presenting the regional premiere of the play in a production that is as good as theatre gets. (more...)

In the past few seasons, MSMT has made a cOncerted effort to expand and enhance their Young Audiences series by offering original musicals based on traditional children's literature and packaged in sophisticated productions with elaborate costumes, imaginative scenery and stagecraft. Moreover, these hour-long performances are entirely created by MSMT's young professional artists- interns, apprentices, and local actors – thereby offering these artists a chance to gain valuable experience. Opening on September 6, the exhibition, Thinking Pictures will introduce audiences to the artists and work that defined the development and evolution of cOnceptual art in Moscow in the 1970s and 1980s. Thinking Pictures opens with Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid's pivotal 1973 installation, Apelles Ziablov (The World's First Abstract Art, Painting from the 18th Century by the Serf Artist), which features a series of paintings and artist-created archival material that present the artists' sudden discovery: an original creator of abstract art, the semi-fictional character Apelles Ziablov. The work, at Once humorous and incisively critical of authority, whether governmental or historic, encapsulates the underlying spirit of the diverse practices and approaches that comprise "Moscow COnceptualism."
