According to Deadline.com, Joan Allen is set to make her TV debut HBO's new series, Luck. The stage and screen star will join previously announced Dustin Hoffman in the series. Allen will star as a woman in charge of a program, in which inmates care for injured racehorses. Additional cast members include: Kerry Condon, Ritchie Coster, Kevin Dunn, Dennis Farina, Jason Gedrick, Ian Hart, Jill Hennessy, Richard Kind, Nick Nolte, John Ortiz, Tom Payne and Gary Stevens. Aurora Theatre Company announced today its plans for a workshop production of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat (A Soldier's Tale). Through an innovative collaboration between Artistic Director Tom Ross and former San Francisco Ballet dancer Muriel Maffre, Aurora will develop a re-imagined production of L'Histoire du Soldat, based on a new translation of the libretto and new adaptation of the score. The project will feature four musicians (piano, violin, clarinet and percussion), three actors, two dancers/puppeteers, puppets (one life-size and one small), and video elements. Maffre, who performed a concert version of the work with the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival in Seattle, will serve as choreographer, dancer, and co-director of the workshop. Artistic Director Tom Ross will co-direct with Maffre, and Berkeley Opera's Jonathan Khuner will serve as musical director. (more...)

Individual artists and nonprofit arts organizations in all disciplines can apply now for grants of up to $1,000 through the Community Arts Assistance Program (CAAP) for the year 2011 for professional, artistic, and organizational development projects. Applications are available for download at www.cityofchicago.org/CulturalGrants. Hard copies are also distributed at the 1st floor Concierge Desk of the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington Street, and 20 other locations throughout the city. Application assistance workshops are scheduled December 4, 2010, through January 20, 2011.
