Cady Huffman, Liz Callaway, Kate Baldwin, Peter Cincotti and Jason Danieley are among the performers interpreting the works of Stephen Sondheim; Irving Berlin; Sheldon Harnick; and such songwriters as Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Leonard Bernstein, who so eloquently illuminated New York City's essence in song. One of my son's favorite children's book series is "Fly Guy" by Tedd Arnold. So when we heard that Theatreworks, one of New York's preeminent family theatre companies, was presenting a musical version of "Fly Guy Meets Fly Girl", we knew we had to check it out! Our favorite, buzzing hero's tale was part of a new musical revue based on favorite children's books. The show kicked off a new weekend performance series at the Danny Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, and if "Fly Guy" was any indication, the rest of the series is sure to be a hit. (more...)

The organization's 32nd season will be extended by two weeks this summer.  The Hurst Theatre opens with the groundbreaking revival version of the musical CABARET, running in repertory with Other Desert Cities, Peter and the Starcatcher, and Junie B. Jones The Musical.  Following the regular season, the theatre recently announced the launch of the Aspen Theatre Festival, featuring new plays and musicals being developed for the stage.  The festival takes place the week of August 23rd - 28th. Beginning its 42nd season, Theatre for Young America is offering an varied season of plays:: two Kansas City premieres; a world premiere; some traditional favorites; and a Halloween night-time presentation. The 2015-16 season begins with a Siamese cat's imaginative excursion to Mexico, and ends with a boy's magical encounter with a giant. Six of the presentations are based directly upon children's literature. The season runs from October 13, 2015 through June 24, 2016.
