Parents of 9/11 Victim Asia Cottom Honor Her with Book and Foundation

When Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 after being hijacked, the world saw the outpouring of grief and support across America. However, for one family, the grief was intensely personal. Asia Cottom, 11, was one of three DC Public School students on the airplane when Flight 77 crashed that morning. The plan was for her to take part in one of America's premier undersea projects-the Sustainable Seas Expedition. She had been chosen to go on a four-day National Geographic field trip to the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary in Santa Barbara, California. (more...)

The National Gallery of Art's Little Dancer Aged Fourteen (1878–1881) takes center stage in Degas's Little Dancer, a focus exhibition on view from October 5, 2014 through January 11, 2015. The exhibition is presented in conjunction with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' world-premiere musical Little Dancer, which runs from October 25, 2014 through November 30, 2014. The musical is inspired by Edgar Degas's renowned original wax statuette of a young ballerina, which caused a sensation when it was first shown at the 1881 impressionist exhibition in Paris and is one of the most popular works of art in the Gallery of Art's collection. The Classical Theatre Lab and the City of West Hollywood present A Family Affair by Alexander Ostrovsky, adapted from a translation by Geroge R. Noyes, directed by Mel Green. Causing an uproar when published in 1850, this broad and irreverent Russian comedy of manners centers around a greedy merchant, Bolshov, who makes a fraudulent bankruptcy application in order to finance the lavish lifestyle of his bourgeois husband-hunting daughter. When Bolshov's accomplices run off with his assets and his daughter, he descends into professional and psychological ruin and is jailed. Prohition Themed 5k Takes Place in Memphis, 8/30

Memphis, TN- Trivium Racing is putting runners in the shoes of their bootleggin' ancestors, in this new night- time trail 5K that will transform Shelby Farms Park on August 30th, to a historic period of American history. As runners don their headlamps, individuals will test their good judgment through the backcountry trails under the moonlight attempting to arrive at one goal: Moonshine. This event will transition runners back to the 1920's Prohibition Era rum running and race through the wooded trails of the backcountry. As runners 'escape the law' running through the dark night, participants have their sights set on the finish which is scattered with Piedmont Distilleries Moonshine as well as live Bluegrass and Old- Timey Music. The race is open to those of all ages, however those over the age of 21 will receive two free Moonshine drink tickets as part of the post- race party. Also, the event is chip timed so there will be overall and age group awards. Trivium Racing is also proud to announce that we will be partnering with Wings Cancer Foundation for this event. Wings Cancer Foundation's mission is to provide hope, education, research, and support to all of those who have been touched by cancer. Trivium Racing will donate a portion of the event proceeds to support all of the good work Wings does in the community. The public can check out more information and register for the event by visiting http://bootlegger5k.com. Ticket prices range from $33 to $45 depending on when the participant signs up. Registration includes entry to the event and post party, a Bootlegger shirt, commemorative moonshine Mason jar, and the event timing chip.
