Stephanie Baartman, Lorri Strauss and Sharon Spiegel Wagner have teamed up to strut their stuff in their new musical revue, THE DRESS CODE, which comes to Theatre on the Square in Sandton in May 2023. Musical direction is by Clifford Cooper and Alan Swerdlow directs this show all about clothes, fashion and 'how we wear the clothes that make us, break us and fake us.' Stephanie, Lorri and Sharon chatted to me about the show and why it is set to be this season's hottest trend.

One of the things I love about musical theatre is how it can be so many different things all at once. Shows that tackle a deep subject or address a serious social topic sit next to light and fun stories of queens and knights in shining armor, and all make great musicals. And some shows, like PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT tackle all of the above, but do so wrapped in a glittery, colorful wrapping. So, I was particularly excited to make it out to Titusville to see Titusville Playhouse’s PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT (now playing through March 26th) – and found there a rollicking, good time that also strikes a particular nerve at this moment in history.

'We'll be seeing you...' at Town Theatre as we take a delightful trip through the music, movement and memories of the 1930s and '40s. The All Night Strut is a melting pot of tunes from iconic artists such as Duke Ellington, Frank Loesser and The Gershwins.

Mercury Theater has extended the run of Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, directed by Christopher Chase Carter and Alexis J. Roston, written by Lanie Robertson, and starring Alexis J. Roston as Billie Holiday.

The song was originally released as the b-side of the “Shake It Little Tina” 7” inch vinyl in 2015, and is now available on streaming services for the first time. Low Cut Connie spoke about Blavat’s legacy with Rolling Stone, who called the song “...a brief blast of what endeared Blavat to Philadelphia and fascinated those outside the city.”

Florida Studio Theatre presents the original music revue, Reel Music, celebrating the movies that helped create the soundtrack to the last century.  Featuring classics like “Singin' in the Rain,” “Circle of Life,” and “My Heart Will Go On,” this new Cabaret traces how films—and the music highlighted in them—have evolved over the past one hundred years.

Skylight Music Theatre announced the full cast for the Wisconsin premiere of Dennis DeYoung’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, running May 20 through June 12, 2022. Performances take place in the beautiful Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

Custom Made Theatre Co. (Brian Katz, Executive Artistic Director) continues its 23rd season with the Bay Area Premiere of “Blood at the Root” by trailblazing playwright Dominique Morisseau, directed and choreographed by Darryl V. Jones.
