NY Phil Announces New Season of Young People's Concerts, 12/12

The 93rd season of the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts (YPCs) will begin on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. with the program "Fables and Folktales," the first in this season's series, Once Upon a Time, exploring music inspired by stories, poems, and legends. The season's first concert will feature Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, narrated by Brandon Gill; Richard Strauss's Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks; and the first performance of selections from the orchestral version of Raphael Mostel's Travels of Babar, Part One: The Honeymoon, accompanied by a digital slideshow of high-resolution scans of Babar author Jean de Brunhoff's watercolors. Joshua Gersen, in his first season as a Philharmonic Assistant Conductor, will make his Philharmonic debut leading the performance, and Vice President, Education, Theodore Wiprud will host the event. Mr Popper and his Penguins will be hopping off to various locations, opening at the Theatre Royal Brighton on Thursday 26 November. The tour continues on to Malvern Theatre and London's Cadogan Hall before settling in at the Lowry Salford for a glittering Christmas season from Thursday 10 December to Sunday 10 January. So when I was invited to see Kelsey Wilk's new play "Changing Faces" as the 16th production of Theatre by the Blind directed by Greg Shane, I knew I was in for another mind-empowering experience. ANNAPOLIS, MD – British pianist Michael Roll returns to the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra after his 2012 debut, in the next set of Lexus Classic Series concerts at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 8pm.  Music Director José-Luis Novo will conduct the orchestra and Mr. Roll in Robert Schumann's Piano Concerto in A Minor.  The concert will also feature Ludwig van Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Charles Ives' The Unanswered Question and Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major.     (more...)

Today, producer Mark Goucher has confirmed that following the phenomenal success of the current UK tour, the new production of Hairspray will return at the end of summer 2017 to once again tour the UK. Hall's brand new piece was conceived in collaboration with the internationally renowned sound designer David Sheppard during her stay at the distinguished five-star hotel as its Artist in Residence. It will be performed for audiences of 12 at a time in the beautiful rooms, intimate spaces, and restricted areas of the hotel from bedrooms through to boiler rooms. The piece invites audiences to embark on a sonic journey of discovery in a Promenade performance where they will be led by a live choir and find musicians where least expected accompanied by   specially recorded music. Rooms will spontaneously break into song and drama will unfold along the corridors. An opera unlike any other, Found & Lost will have its official opening night at the hotel on 27 January.  (more...)
