BWW EXCLUSIVE: Brian Murray Talks ME, MYSELF & I and MoreBWW EXCLUSIVE: Brian Murray Talks ME, MYSELF & I and More
by Pat Cerasaro - Sep 30, 2010

Earlier this month I had the chance to conduct an InDepth InterView with Drama Desk-winning stage actor and director Brian Murray who currently co-stars with Elizabeth Ashley in Edward Albee's new off-Broadway absurdest farce ME, MYSELF & I and our conversation now constitutes the second part in BroadwayWorld's exclusive 3-part series on the new Albee masterpiece. In this illuminating conversation, in addition to a thorough discussion of ME, MYSELF & I, Murray also dishes on his new 2011 'horrific chiller' co-starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts directed by esteemed director Jim Sheridan (MY LEFT FOOT, THE BOXER, GET RICH OR DIE TRYIN', BROTHERS), as well as playing Alec Baldwin and Nathan Lane's alcoholic father on 30 ROCK (married to Elaine Stritch!) and his warm words to his TWELFTH NIGHT co-star Kyra Sedgwick on her recent Emmy win as Best Actress for THE CLOSER! Plus, working with Kevin Kline, Helen Hunt, Marian Seldes, Nathan Lane, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and much, much more! Enjoy the intelligent wit and impassioned dedication Murray feels for his craft in this introspective InDepth InterView! (more...)

The Odeon Presents HAMLET, 10/7The Odeon Presents HAMLET, 10/7
by BWW News Desk - Oct 7, 2010

Nikolaï Kolyada is still pretty much unknown in France. He will not remain so for long. His Hamlet is enveloped in pagan celebrations. With Kolyada, the actor's voices have become urgent, essential. Shakespeare's words are sung, chewed, chanted by wonderfully savage actors who twist and knead them just like the canvases hanging from the walls that are slashed. Speed, fusion and infectiousness are all present at this impure feast where the director himself, dressed as a pathetic angel, plays the role of the Ghost who has come to take the naked body of Ophelia, while his fetish actor, Oleg Yagodine, gives the restless, dark prince, all the beauty of a character from Visconti. Spotlight On NYMF: Brenda Braxton & TRAV'LINSpotlight On NYMF: Brenda Braxton & TRAV'LIN
by Pat Cerasaro - Oct 6, 2010

Today we kick off our series on the 2010 New York Musical Theater Festival with the warm and fuzzy memories - as well as some less than fond remembrances - of the life and career of Broadway triple-threat leading lady Brenda Braxton. From the original company of DREAMGIRLS on Broadway under the direction of Michael Bennett to CATS and LEGS DIAMOND and George C. Wolfe's JELLY'S LAST JAM all the way up to her many stints in the Broadway revival of CHICAGO - as well as directing and recreating the original Bennett/Avian/Peters choreography for the post-9/11 star-studded DREAMGIRLS concert starring Audra McDonald, Lillias White and Heather Headley - we talk it all, plus all the exciting new musicals she is participating in - such as her NYMF starrer TRAVELIN' and another new musical reading, as well as projects of her own creation - both onstage and, now, behind-the-scenes! Ms. Braxton was generous enough to spend some time on a rainy afternoon earlier this week to discuss her career, the state of Broadway, the necessity of new musical theatre voices, working with Michael Bennett, and all the details on the new musical she is starring in that premieres this Friday at the NYMF, TRAVELIN' as well as some exciting news of what lies ahead! The New York Times says, 'ROMEO AND JULIET is a play of enormous, reckless passions - clans feud, friends quarrel, and lovers swoon. Here, those passions are met head-on, and with real skill.' The Minneapolis Examiner claims, 'This ROMEO AND JULIET transcends its classic status by portraying its fated lovers as two swept up in a romance that leads from the heart and not from the head. Whatever your age, it's safe to say this production will make you feel equally smitten.' This is a strictly limited engagement of this acclaimed national tour of William Shakespeare's richly poetic tragedy of young love. (more...)
