?Samovar Subway Ensemble has announced a Hollywood Fringe Festival production of The Gentrification Cycle, two short plays written by G.D. Kimble and directed by Christina Cigala. Jen Tries Vacation and Locomotive Repair in Three Easy Steps will feature (in alphabetical order) Jon Gentry, Emily McLeod, Suzan Mikiel, Adam Tomei, Brian Wallace, Claire Winters, and Allison Youngberg. There will be five performances at the Dorie Theatre @ The Complex in Hollywood - Friday 6/3 at 7:30pm (press preview); Thursday 6/9 at 9pm; Thursday 6/16 at 7pm; Thursday 6/23 at 10:30pm; and Friday 6/24 at 6:45pm. Total running time will be 70 minutes. Milwaukee Ballet's absolutely astonishing production of Alice (in wonderland) transports Carroll's magical stories to the stage in captivating theatrical style. Septime Webre's choreography, Liz Vandal's concept and costume design, James Kronzer's scenic design and Clifton Taylor's lighting design recreate Carroll's surreal world with those wonders of wonders completely intact. A ballet conceived for The Washington Ballet in 2012, Artistic Director Michael Pink imported the lush, full length ballet for his brilliant company, the Ballet Program II and students of the Milwaukee Ballet School and Academy. How curious and curiouser an English children's fantasy written in 1865 for Three Sisters has been translated into 174 languages and never been out of print since, never once. Lewis Carroll's surreal tale 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' usually shortened to 'Alice in Wonderland,' appears on stage at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts when Artistic Director Michael Pink and Milwaukee Ballet present their version of Alice in Wonderland, which first premiered at the Washington Ballet in 2012, With this immense production of Alice, MKE Ballet Costume Manager Mary Piering completes 32 years in the company's costume shop at 5th and National to refit the more than 120 costumes for the one weekend only performances. A visit to the shop the week of rehearsals found Piering stitching on a small headpiece, putting the finishing touches on the entire cast's wardrobe. (more...)

OPERA America Welcomes New Chairman & Members to Board of Directors

 OPERA America, the national service organization for opera and the nation's leading champion for American opera, is pleased to announce that Timothy O'Leary, general director of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, has been elected the new chairman of OPERA America's board of directors. He has been involved with OPERA America since 2006, when he participated in Leadership Advance, one of the organization's professional development programs. He joined OPERA America's board in 2011. O'Leary was elected chairman at OPERA America's recent annual business meeting — held during Opera Conference 2016 in Montreal — where eight new members were also elected to the board and three current members were re-elected to three-year terms.  (more...)

Mirirai Sithole Awarded Classic Stage Company's Rosemarie Tichler Fund Grant

Classic Stage Company has announced that Mirirai Sithole is this year's recipient of the Rosemarie Tichler Fund grant. The Fund was established in 2010 with the mission to assist young actors who have appeared at CSC and who have recently made the transition from their training into the profession. The $3,000 grant can be used by the young artist to continue training or to offset loans they may have incurred while studying their craft. With the grant, CSC hopes to make a difference in the lives of young actors at the start of their careers as well as to heighten awareness in the community to the specific needs of actors.  (more...)

Two soldiers ended up pregnant by fellow soldier Charles Graner; both women wanted to marry him, competed with each other to win his love, and enthusiastically tortured prisoners together, documenting most of it in pictures that later leaked and shocked the world. ANTON IN SHOW BUSINESS by Jane Martin is a satirical romp across the stage of American Theatre, that holds a hilarious mirror up to the live theatre entertainment from coast to coast. The story focuses on Holly (Gillian Shure), a wildly popular TV star, who needs to get theatrical street cred to be considered for film. On a whim she signs on to do Anton Chekov's "Three Sisters" in a small repertory theatre in Texas where she can hire directors and pull all the strings as the show's financial backer.
