Jamie Lloyd Productions presents The Hothouse, Harold Pinter's macabre tragic comedy returning to London's West End in a new production this month. The Hothouse is next up in a thrilling season of work for Trafalgar Transformed, a joint initiative between director Jamie Lloyd (Donmar's Passion, Broadway's Cyrano de Bergerac, The National Theatre's She Stoops to Conquer, Royal Court's The Pride) and Howard Panter. It comes hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed Macbeth, starring James McAvoy. Lives of the Pigeons is by renowned poet Sherod Santos and is receiving its world premiere production at the side project under the direction of artistic director Adam Webster. An exciting programme of platform events has been scheduled to run in conjunction with The Hothouse, Jamie Lloyd Productions' second show for Trafalgar Studios. The programme includes: A pre-show Q&A with award winning designer Soutra Gilmour; post show Q&As with the cast and director Jamie Lloyd; a Pinter workshop hosted by director Jamie Lloyd; two Pinter shorts - Family Voices and Victoria Station performed by a cast including Joanna Lumley and Andrew Scott; and three panel discussions: the first with Michael Billington, Nick Payne and Jamie Lloyd followed by a second with Harold Pinter's wife, Lady Antonia Fraser - in conversation with Jamie Lloyd, and finally a panel event to discuss abuse of human rights. TR Knight Joins the Guthrie's 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Guthrie Theater today announced that stage, film and television actor T.R. Knight will appear in BEHOLD: A Gala Performance celebrating the Guthrie's 50th anniversary on June 22, 2013. Knight will return to the Guthrie--where he first appeared onstage at the age of five and was subsequently featured in productions including Ah, Wilderness! and Amadeus--for the first time since becoming a national presence on Broadway and Off-Broadway stages and in the television program "Grey's Anatomy." He is currently featured as Harold Parrott in the newly released feature film 42 about the life story of Brooklyn Dodgers player Jackie Robinson. (more...)

It's not a play by Shakespeare, but it shares traits with Shakespeare's great comedies: eccentric characters, absurdly comic situations, and deep warmth. BWW Reviews: City Theatre's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING Features Strong Leads but a Few Flaws

It's no secret that Shakespeare's plays are among the most challenging for actors and directors to tackle. The language is dense and the plot is often complex, making it difficult for modern audiences to connect with the play. While some productions easily rise to the occasion, there's something amiss in The City Theatre's current production of Much Ado About Nothing. While the two leads are delightful to watch, the rest of the production is fairly middle of the road. It certainly won't be among the worst production of Shakespeare that you're bound to see, but it won't be among the best either. (more...)

Rose Theatre Kingston and English Touring Theatre will co-produce a new translation of Henrik Ibsen's classic, Ghosts this autumn. Stephen Unwin, outgoing Artistic Director of the Rose Theatre, will direct his own translation which will premiere at the Rose on the 19 September before touring nationwide to Salisbury, Oxford, Guildford, York, Watford, Malvern and Brighton. Unwin has a long standing connection with Ibsen's work, and this will be the 7th Ibsen play he has directed. This will be the second play translation that Unwin has written, following his highly acclaimed translation of The Lady from the Sea in 2012 at the Rose Theatre. (more...)
