BWW Review: Funny, Competing THE MYSTERY OF LOVE AND SEX Opens New Season at Dobama
by Roy Berko - Sep 6, 2016

Bathsheba Doran, author of The Mystery of Love and Sex now on stage at Dobama Theatre, stated of the script, 'I had no plans for subject matter. I never do when I begin. As my play stormed out of me, unstoppable and violent, I was horrified. The experience was deeply unpleasant, emotionally. I was the most embarrassing of writers in the cafe where I worked: tears streamed down my face as I stabbed out the dialogue on my keyboard. I looked up once, just in time to see a nearby guy whisper amusedly to a girl: 'Whoa, she's really into it.' (more...)

BWW Review: Artistry and Acting are Reasons Enough to See I CALL MY BROTHERS at Forum Theatre
by Jennifer Perry - Sep 13, 2016

I can nearly always count on the small, but mighty Forum Theatre to conjure up selections each season that are a little out-of-the-box, and present them with an abundance of creativity. Season 13 is no exception, and it starts off with the area premiere of Jonas Hassen Khemiri's I CALL MY BROTHERS (translated from Swedish by Rachel Willson-Broyles). In the intimate Silver Spring Black Box Theatre, Director Michael Dove and his strong cast of four deal well with the challenges and potential inherent in Khemiri's script, and give the audience a relevant night of theatre that ends - appropriately - with more questions than answers. BWW Review: Watch It Ensnare Us All with THE MOUSETRAP at Cape Playhouse
by Kristen Morale - Aug 28, 2016

With a small yet stellar cast directed by Pamela Hunt and finishing the Playhouse's 90th season as its final full length production of the summer, there is so much to love about this production of Christie's classic The Mousetrap. Honestly, if you don't enjoy it, you really aren't following the story close enough. From enigmatic characters, all whom are just about self-incriminatingly suspicious from the very start, to a plot that you will try your utmost to decipher while the facts are laid out bare before you, Hunt and her cast have truthfully really created quite the masterpiece with this production (more...)

Photo Flash: 1776 at Lakewood Theatre Company
by BWW News Desk - Aug 24, 2016

In a year with a rollicking presidential election, and the 240th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, it seems fitting for Lakewood Theatre Company to present 1776, the Tony Award-winning musical about how the founding fathers drafted the Declaration of Independence and gave birth to a new nation. Political maneuvering provides the heart and soul of 1776; the road to accord seems as fraught with obstacles as any in Congress today. It is a show that will remind us how far America has come and how little we've changed. (more...)
