As BroadwayWorld reported last week, theater journalist Randy Gener was assaulted on January 17th, shortly before 4 a.m. after attending the opening night of Broadway's Machinal and leaving a party in midtown. Now according to NBC New York, a 24-year old from Queens, Leighton Jennings, has been charged for the attack. (more...)

American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University has announced the return of the Chicago company The Hypocrites, with their mash-up of Shakespeare's Romeo Juliet and 12 Nights. Adapted and directed by Artistic Director Sean Graney, the two productions will play in repertory at OBERON, 2 Arrow Street, Cambridge. The attack on theater journalist Randy Gener, who is currently recovering in the ICU from brain surgery after an assault last week, is being considered a possible hate crime by the police. Gener was reportedly assaulted on January 17th, shortly before 4 a.m. after attending the opening night of Broadway's Machinal and leaving a party in midtown. Michael Cumpsty's first appearance on a Roundabout stage was in 1987 as a "moonstruck poet" in the Off-Broadway production of George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman. Since then, he has appeared in 17 Broadway shows including five Roundabout productions and has been nominated for a Tony Award and two Outer Critics Circle awards. Cumpsty's most recent appearance on Broadway is in Machinal, now playing at the American Airlines Theatre through March 2. (more...)

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, will present David Ives' THE HEIR APPARENT, adapted from the play by Jean-Francois Regnard, beginning performances Friday, March 28 at CSC (136 East 13th Street). Directed by John Rando, THE HEIR APPARENT will feature Suzanne Bertish (Madame Argante), Carson Elrod (Crispin), Claire Karpen (Lisette), Amelia Pedlow (Isabelle), David Pittu (Scruple), Dave Quay (Eraste) and Paxton Whitehead (Geronte). The Theatre School at DePaul University will present MOTH as the second production in the Sondra & Denis Healy Theatre at The Theatre School building, located at Racine and Fullerton on the Lincoln Park Campus. The Healy Theatre is a 100-seat flexible theatre, located on the fourth floor of The Theatre School. Its distinguishing feature is the completely transparent north wall overlooking Fullerton Avenue. Declan Greene's MOTH is directed by Michael Osinksi, MFA Directing candidate, Class of 2014. The production premieres on Friday, February 14, and runs through Sunday, February 23, 2014. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Previews are tonight, February 12 and 13, at 7:30 PM. (more...)

Machinal plays at 8pm tomorrow night at the American Airlines Theatre (227 West 42 Street). $20 tickets are available for purchase at the box office only.
