Know Theatre of Cincinnati is pleased to announce its third production of the season, Adding Machine: A Musical, with original music by Joshua Schmidt and libretto by Jason Loewith & Joshua Schmidt based on the play The Adding Machine by Elmer Rice. Adding Machine: A Musical will open on Know Theatre's mainstage February 13 and play through March 6, 2010. Michael Burnham will direct the production and Alan Patrick Kenny is the Musical Director. La Jolla Playhouse announced today five of six productions in its 2010/11 subscription season, including the world premiere of Annie Weisman's Surf Report, running June/July in the Mandell Weiss Forum; William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley and featuring an on-stage orchestra playing the music of Mendelssohn, running July/Aug in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; the world-premiere musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak, lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, starring Tony Award-winner Jefferson Mays, running Sept/Oct in the Mandell Weiss Theatre; a new adaptation of Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, adapted by Robert Woodruff and Bill Camp, directed by Robert Woodruff, running late Sept/Oct in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined, running Nov/Dec in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. Garth Kravits Talks Passion for Theatre: 'I just knew in my heart that's what I wanted'

When Garth Kravits approached his parents with the thought of leaving school and heading into the wedding-singing business, they were not exactly thrilled at first, though given the family's involvement with community theatre, they eventually accepted his decision. Years later, and ready to open in a production of 'Crossing Delancey' at the Bickford Theatre, Kravits attributes his evolution as an artist to the years he spent as a wedding singer, 'My high school drama teacher told me it doesn't matter if there's one person in the back row or 1,000 people, you should give it the same passion,' he says in an interview with New Jersey Online, 'It's the same for weddings - there are those where the crowd is energized and animated and thrilled to be there, and there are those weddings where the guests are picking at the salmon, glassy-eyed.' Fred Applegate, George Hearn, David Patrick Kelly, Michael McCormick, Rondi Reed, Elena Shaddow, James Snyder and Ted Sutherland have been cast in Fanny, the 50th Encores! musical produced by New York City Center since 1994 and the second Encores! production of the season. Fanny, running February 4 - 7, has music and lyrics by Harold Rome and book by S.N. Behrman and Joshua Logan, and is based on Marcel Pagnol's trilogy Marius, Fanny and Cesar. Fanny will be directed by Mark Bruni and choreographed by Lorin Latarro with music direction by Rob Berman. (more...)

Henry Winkler Will Guest Star on 2nd Season of 'Royal Pains' this Summer

Stage, film, and television star Henry Winkler will join the cast of USA's 'Royal Pains' in its second summer season. Winkler will join the cast in a major role next season as Eddie R. Lawson, father of the show's two lead characters Hank and Evan Lawson, played by Mark Feuerstein and Evan Paulo Costanzo respectively. It was revealed at the end of the first season that Winkler's would be character stole all of the money from his sons' business, HankMed. The show will air on Thursdays on USA during the summer. A premiere date and time slot have yet to be announced. (more...)
