Variety reports that the legit director's union has a new name, with the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers now rechristened the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. It has also shortened the org's acronym from SSDC into SDC according to the trade paper. (more...)

Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty and Terrence McNally's RAGTIME, which is selling out at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. is looking to bring it's 'new music' to Broadway, reports The Washington Post. Produced by Stuart Oken, Roy Furman, Michael Leavitt and Five Cent Productions, by special arrangement with Elephant Eye Theatrical, THE ADDAMS FAMILY will open on Broadway Thursday, April 8, 2010 at a Nederlander theatre to be announced. The limited engagement, to be directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan (Accent on Youth, Sight Unseen on Broadway, Brooklyn Boy, Dinner with Friends) will begin previews at MTC's Samuel J. T. Scott Cunningham, Theatre And Screen Actor, Dead At Age 47

Actor T. Scott Cunningham, a founding member of Drama Dept. and The Vineyard Community of Artists, died at NYU Medical Center in New York City on Saturday, June 20 from complications due to pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, according to Sam Rudy, a spokesperson for The Vineyard Theatre. RIALTO CHATTER: Kennedy Center's RAGTIME Looks Set For Broadway Bow

Lynn Ahrens, Stephen Flaherty and Terrence McNally's RAGTIME, which was a critically acclaimed sell out at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. now looks set to bring it's 'new music' to Broadway. While there is no official word or comment an Equity casting notice has been posted to Backstage for a Broadway/Production contract for RAGTIME. The notice states rehearsal and performance dates are to be announced. Equity principal auditions will be held June 22, 24 and 25 while Equity chorus calls are June 26 for dancers and June 23 for singers. (more...)

'Catch Me If You Can' at the 5th Avenue

The 5th Avenue Theatre started off their season with the world premiere, pre broadway engagement of the musical 'Catch Me If You Can' based on the Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio film. And as one who has been very vocally against the trend of turning movies into musicals, I have to back pedal on that a bit and admit that when it's done well, it can be an amazing experience. And this show is the closest thing to a perfect new show that I?ve seen in awhile. (more...)
