Mark Blum, Michael Stahl-David, Donna Hanover, Tom Lipinski and Liz Stauber will comprise the cast of Christopher Shinn's play PICKED -- being given its world-premiere production by the Vineyard Theatre (108 E. 15 St.), with previews starting April 6 prior to its official opening night on April 20 -- it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, the Vineyard's artistic director. Steven Hauck has replaced Jonathan Lincoln Fried as Wilhelm Canaris in the Affinity Company Theater and 3-Legged Dog world premiere production of Sheila Schwartz's 'SPY GARBO,' directed by Kevin Cunningham. This Off Broadway engagement will be performed at 3LD Art & Technology Center, 80 Greenwich Street (just south of Rector). The dates remain the same (as previously announced) with previews beginning on Tuesday, March 1, and the official Opening Performance on Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. (more...)

Muddy Waters Theatre Company Presents THE BALTIMORE WALTZ 3/4-3/20

This production of THE BALTIMORE WALTZ features Kate Frisina as Anna who contracts Acquired Toilet Disease (ATD) - a non-contagious but fatal disease - as she romps through Europe on an imaginary 'sexcapade' with her brother Carl, played by Stephen Peirick. Along the way they encounter the mysterious Third Man, played by DJ Sanders, who also manages in his first St. Louis stage appearance in 15 years to transform into a doctor and a number of other characters. The Obie Award-winning play, described by Vogel as about relationships, is a comic, melancholic and loving tribute to her own brother Carl. Jerry McAdams directs. (more...)

Sundance Institute announced today the acting company participating in its 2011 Theatre Lab held at The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada from March 27-April 17. The Theatre Lab provides an atmosphere focused on artistic development and collaboration to develop and refine new theatre work with the support of full casts. Building upon the Sundance Institute's history of cultivating international exchange and dialogue, the 2011Theatre Lab projects and participants illustrate and explore the world's most innovative storytelling. A record number 89 artists began their Lab experience on World Theatre Day, bringing works from the United States, Mexico, and Tanzania to the three week workshop. Sundance Institute is grateful for the assistance of the Performing Arts Residency Program at The Banff Centre. (more...)

The Houston-based Prize received the 2010 Theatre Communications Group's National Funder Award. To create discourse about sex and age, Brava Theater presents The Oldest Profession, written by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive, Baltimore Waltz). Directed by Brava Company Member Evren Odcikin and musical arrangements by Angela Dwyer, this production recognizes the awareness of women playwrights and the men that support them. Vogel's commentary on aging and sex will come to life during Women's History Month and in correlation with Support Women Arts Now (SWAN) DAY on March 26th. The Oldest Profession runs March 12th through April 9th (press opening, Monday, March 14th) at Brava Theater in San Francisco's historic Mission District (2781 24th Street at York). Grammy and Emmy Award winner, Tony Award nominee and multi-platinum recording artist Harry Connick, Jr. will star in a reimagined production of ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER opening fall 2011 on Broadway at a theatre to be announced. The delightful Tony Award nominated score by Burton Lane (music) and Alan Jay Lerner (lyrics) is enhanced by classics from their film scores for On A Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970) and Royal Wedding (1951). With a new book by Peter Parnell based on the original book by Alan Jay Lerner, the musical is reconceived and directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer. As previously announced, David Auburn (author of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Broadway smash Proof) will direct this world premiere production. Performances of this two-person play begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) on June 2, 2011 with an official opening night set for Sunday, June 19, 2011.
