BWW Reviews: Gaslight's THE ANDREWS BROTHERSBWW Reviews: Gaslight's THE ANDREWS BROTHERS
by Jeffrey Ellis - Apr 24, 2015

Perhaps no singing group more aptly captures the spirit of America during World War II than the glorious Andrews Sisters: the sound of Patty, Maxene and Laverne somehow encapsulates the romantic notions of a world at war that still delights audiences and conjures up visions of all-American spirit and spunk. With songs like 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,' 'Hold Tight,' 'Three Little Sisters,' and 'Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree,' audiences are immediately taken away to wartime - well, actually, the war's in its waning days (the time is March 1945), but young men are still risking their lives to ensure our liberties while saving the world from the Axis powers. BWW Reviews: And BEST OF BROADWAY 2 Begat BEST OF BROADWAY 3BWW Reviews: And BEST OF BROADWAY 2 Begat BEST OF BROADWAY 3
by Joseph Baker - Apr 24, 2015

Once again, it's Spring; and once again, Stage Door Productions has brought professionals and nonprofessionals together to share their love of musical theatre and their talents in what is, by now, an annual event: THE BEST OF BROADWAY 3, closing this weekend at the KROC Center, is Director Brandon Kelly's latest 'greatest hits' collection to entertain Memphis' audiences. This is the second year I have attended this event, and even though a review at this point probably won't make much difference in bolstering attendance, BEST doesn't really need it. The audience here is 'a given' (and a vocal 'given' at that) - a multigenerational aggregation of relatives and friends, lovers of musicals, and people who simply want to be entertained; and in that latter respect, THE BEST OF BROADWAY 3 does not disappoint. Hauser & Wirth to Present Leon Golub Sculpture Exhibition, 5/11Hauser & Wirth to Present Leon Golub Sculpture Exhibition, 5/11
by BWW News Desk - Apr 24, 2015

NEW YORK... Beginning 11 May 2015, Hauser & Wirth will present the gallery's inaugural exhibition devoted to renowned postwar American figurative painter Leon Golub. Spanning five decades and including a selection of paintings and late drawings, 'Leon Golub. Riot' surveys the late artist's politically charged and profoundly emotive oeuvre. Golub's work achieves the gravitas of great history painting, but asserts its modernity and relevance through its raw power of passionate protest. Golub grappled with sprawling themes of war, violence, injustice, oppression and the abuse of power while intimately engaging the human condition and probing into the realities of our shared experiences.  (more...)
