Music Academy's 70th Anniversary Season Announced

 The Music Academy of the West launches its 70th anniversary season on June 12. To celebrate this major milestone anniversary, the Festival will launch three important new initiatives - the Commissions and Premieres program, the Enterprise Awards program for alumni, and the Steinway Competition and tour - besides presenting the inaugural Evolution/Revolution Conference and the largest classical music event in the history of Santa Barbara, California, for which Alan Gilbert will lead the New York Philharmonic in the final performance of his eight-year tenure with the orchestra. This year's four Mosher Guest Artists, Matthew Aucoin, David Daniels, Renee Fleming, and Stephen Hough, will take part in major Academy performances and share their expertise through masterclasses. Taking place from June 12 through August 5, 2017, the 70th Season Festival will comprise more than 200 masterclasses, recitals, performances, and events in Santa Barbara, many of which are free to the public. Festival events will feature the Summer School's 137 fellows, drawn from 22 states and eight countries, as well as nearly 70 faculty and guest artists. (more...)

The concert will feature a live symphony orchestra performing, to picture, every note from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Audiences can relive the magic of the entire film in high definition on a 40-foot screen while the orchestra performs every note of John Williams' unforgettable score to picture live on stage. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and New Jersey Performing Arts Center announce an additional performance of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert on Saturday, October 28, at 7:30 pm at NJPAC in Newark. Limited tickets are still available for the previously announced October 28 matinee at 2 pm. The NJSO will perform John Williams' unforgettable score from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second film in the Harry Potter franchise, while the film plays in high-definition on a giant screen. BWW Review: BUTCHER HOLLER HERE WE COME is a One Of A Kind Sensory Experience

NYC theatre company Aztec Economy teams with Austin theatre company Theatre Synesthesia to present Casey Wimpee's play BUTCHER HOLLER HERE WE COME in this Austin premiere production. Directed by Leah Bonvissuto, who directed the original NY production, the play is a seventy five minute sensory experience about five coal miners who are trapped in a cave in. Set in 1973, West Virginia, BUTCHER HOLLER HERE WE COME, is a startling look at the male psyche-in-crisis.  As these five coal miners struggle to overcome a dwindling supply of oxygen and the lack of food and water, it becomes clear that the biggest obstacles they face are their own competing natures. Director Bonvissuto has done a masterful job here of creating an immersive event. (more...)

The Crested Butte Music Festival (CBMF) in the picturesque mountains of Colorado kicks off its 21st season with the first performances of the summer. CBMF's season, entitled “Identity Unmasked,” will explore identity and its revelation or masking. The Crested Butte Opera Studio vocalists showcase their artistry in a recital on June 23; Famed NYC DJ and club impresario Johnny Dynell  leads a night of masked dancing on June 24; Members of the Crested Butte Opera Studio will present Cabaret Bleu, an evening of music from the American Songbook on June 27; Mark O'Connor – perhaps the greatest fiddler of all time – offers two concerts with his family on June 28 and 29; and the Swallow Hill Bluegrass Kids Camp offers five days of immersive music instruction.
