Neil Nathan Debuts Video For 'Darling Friend'

Just in time for Halloween and The Day of the Dead, Neil Nathan debuts the video for 'Darling Friend,' his lap steel infused re-interpretation of Ludwig Von Beethoven's 'Fur Elise.' In it, Nathan, bedecked in a Beethoven meets T Rex composer jacket serenades the coffin of his lost love while surrounded by a twirling, ghoulish dance troupe. 'Darling Friend' is directed by Vaj Potenza (My Brightest Diamond's 'Freak Out Gold Chains Remix') and choreographed by Suzanne Rydz. Vaj also co- directed two of Nathan's latest videos, 'California Run' and 'When The Rain Falls.' The song is the second single off Neil's covers EP, Songsmiths, which was produced by long time steel collaborator Mike 'Slo-Mo' Brenner (Slo-Mo, Marah, Jason Molina). (more...)

Multi-award winning writer Cormac McCarthy will have his play THE SUNSET LIMITED presented for the first time in Los Angeles, as part of Rogue Machine's 2010 season. Set in a subway tenement apartment of the ex-con, Black, who has forcibly prevented the college professor, White, from casting himself in the path of an on-rushing subway train. Black keeps White a virtual prisoner while he probes the roots of White's suicide attempt. Black is no Stranger to the violence of human nature, but his life has changed drastically since a near death experience. (more...)

Rochelle Slovin, Director of Museum of the Moving Image, today announced further details of the events and programs that will celebrate the grand re-opening of America's only museum dedicated to film, TV and digital media in all their forms. Transformed through a $67 million project, the Museum will open to the public on January 15, 2011, having doubled in size (from 50,000 to 97,700 square feet) and been given striking new physical expression by architect Thomas Leeser. Critically-acclaimed musical theater singer and comedic cabaret artist Carly Ozard presents her new cabaret show Somebody to Love: My Musical Tribute To Freddie Mercury. Carly Ozard will be 'Queen For A Day', paying homage to her musical idol, and sharing historic and unknown facts about Mercury's public and personal lifestyle. Ms. Ozard new cabaret show will showcase popular songs from Queen's extensive repertoire, as well as perform solo work written by Freddie Mercury without Queen. Rare musical material and collaborations will be featured in this tribute to the rock tenor who flaunted his four-octave range, charmed his audiences, and lived his 45 years to the fullest. Ozard will be joined on stage by a three-piece combo along with special guest star Katya Smirnoff-Skyy. Musical Direction is by Joe Wicht. On the heels of his success this summer at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where, almost 'steal[ing] the show' (Independent), he proved himself a 'thrilling Adorno' (Financial Times) opposite Plácido Domingo in Simon Boccanegra, Joseph Calleja begins the 2010-11 season with his Houston Grand Opera debut in a new, opening-night production of Madama Butterfly. Calleja sings B.F. Pinkerton opposite soprano Ana Maria Martinez, who makes her role debut as the tragic Cio-Cio-San. The production team will be led by the renowned British director Michael Grandage, who received the 2010 Tony Award for Best Director of a Play for Red, and who is celebrated by theater audiences for his productions of Hamlet and Frost/Nixon. The cast of Madama Butterfly will work under HGO Music Director Patrick Summers. The first performance on October 22 marks the opening night of the company's 2010-11 season, and the production runs through November 5. (more...)

Rob Marshall to Direct THIN MAN Film?

The Thin Man is a 1934 American comic detective film starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles, a flirtatious married couple who banter wittily as they solve crimes with ease. Nick is a hard drinking retired detective and Nora a wealthy heiress. Their dog, the Wire-Haired Fox Terrier Asta, played by Skippy, was also a popular character. Completed in 1934 and nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, the film was directed by W.S. Van Dyke from a script by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich; the screenplay was based on the mystery novel The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett, supposedly based on his relationship with playwright Lillian Hellman. Also appearing in the film were Maureen O'Sullivan, Nat Pendleton, Minna Gombell, Cesar Romero and Porter Hall. (more...)
