Manifestationz Welcomes New Artists in November
by BWW News Desk - Oct 27, 2014

Manifestationz is pleased to welcome two wonderfully talented artists for the month of November. Throughout the entire month, we will have Artist Doreen Tewksbury and Kevin Peddicord. Manifestationz will celebrate their features with a special Final Friday reception on Friday October 31st. Tewksbury, a Raleigh area artist, is no Stranger to the gallery. She recently taught an Encaustic Art class which showed students how to create pieces using an ancient Grecian technique that uses hot molten wax. Tewksbury credits her family for being one of the many inspirations in her life that sparks her creative side. As a child, she was encouraged by her parents and grandparents who hung her endless drawings all over the place. After moving to Wake Forest from Michigan, Tewksbury took a class that reignited her passion for drawing. Since then, she invented herself as an artist by taking workshops and experimenting in painting with mixed media, acrylics and encaustics (molten wax) and continuing to draw portraits of people and pets, landscapes and still life with graphite. Artist Kevin Peddicord is a native of Columbia MD who began as a designer/art director/pre-press manager at a Triangle area printing company after moving to NC in 1991. He later started his own graphic design company, and went on to work in the sports entertainment field. He began oil painting in the summer of 2004, and participated in a number of shows at various galleries in Raleigh, Winston-Salem, and Wilmington. His primary work is figurative painting in oils and acrylics, as well as watercolor and pen and ink drawings. Kevin cites German Expressionist, French New Wave, and Film Noir as form and subject influences, as well as artistic influences of Edward Hopper, Greg Manchess, Skip Liepke, Frank Frazetta, Alex Ross and Gene Colan. Peddicord currently lives in Raleigh NC with his wife Nanette and two sons Ian and Dane. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Carole J. Bufford's New Show 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' Is a One-Night Tour de Force at 54 Below
by Stephen Hanks - Oct 26, 2014

Having written extensively about skyrocketing-to-stardom singer Carole J. Bufford over the past three years (a January/February cover story for Cabaret Scenes Magazine, and rave reviews of her past three major show runs (here, here, and here), I felt as if I had exhausted my entire repertoire of descriptive metaphors and superlatives in assessing her stirring cabaret performances. Even though she's still but a babe in cabaret years, and has a long, successful career ahead of her, I wasn't planning to review any more of her shows because, well, there didn't seem to be anything more to say. But, dammit, every time I try to get out, Carole J. Bufford pulls me back in. (more...)
