Mick Ebeling Coming to Eccles CenterMick Ebeling Coming to Eccles Center
by BWW News Desk - Jan 9, 2015

Not impossible. It's more than a mantra for entrepreneur-visionary-humanitarian Mick Ebeling, whose practical solutions to real-world problems have changed lives. Ebeling and his team at Not Impossible Labs garnered national attention when their low-cost, DIY tool (the Eyewriter) unlocked a paralyzed graffiti artist's talents, allowing him - and, consequently, others - to communicate and create by using just eye movements. Ebeling, who also happens to be the founder of an acclaimed production company, comes to Park City on Friday, January 16 as part of the Park City Institute / Strategic News Service "Future in Review" Speaker Series. The evening, 'Not Impossible: Technology for the Sake of Humanity,' takes place in the intimate Black Box Theater of Park City's Eccles Center; 7:30p.m. Tickets are $25. (more...)

BWW Reviews: MAMMA MIA Serves Up ABBA HITS at SaengerBWW Reviews: MAMMA MIA Serves Up ABBA HITS at Saenger
by Tara Bennett - Jan 17, 2015

The one thing I love about theatre, especially musical theatre is that there is always something out there for everyone. There are musicals that can provoke tears or laughs depending on your mood, and there is always that one musical that makes you bounce in your seat. For many, this musical is "MAMMA MIA," which is running this week at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans as part of its Broadway New Orleans series. White wedding dresses and silver sequins more or less sum up the experience, which is not necessarily a bad thing. (more...)

AWAKE IN HELL Sequel LaunchesAWAKE IN HELL Sequel Launches
by BWW News Desk - Jan 15, 2015

Author Helen Downing just announced the release of 'Remembering Hell,' a sequel to her debut novel 'Awake In Hell.' 'Awake in Hell' was self-published in 2012 and then was picked up and re-released by Beau Coup Publishing in 2013. The sequel is also published by Beau Coup Publishing. Both books follow Louise Patterson, a foul-mouthed hero who does not realize how to live a good life until after she's dead. Ms. Downing says, 'While 'Awake in Hell' discussed Louise's own redemption, 'Remembering Hell, is more about letting loved ones take their own paths, whether it be toward amazing success or total destruction.' The blurb on the back of the book says 'Now a long-term resident of Heaven, Louise finds a need to return to the one place she thought she had left behind forever - Hell. Back in Central City Hades, she meets Joe who needs a guardian angel. Louise also meets a tall, dark and handsome Stranger who just may change her afterlife. In this compelling sequel to 'Awake In Hell', you are invited to return to the land of the damned with Louise as she learns a whole new set of lessons about how to live a good life, even after you're dead.' Locally, Downing's first book signing is planned for the First Friday of February at the Delaware Store on State Street in Dover, DE. She is also planning an online book tour. The book is available on Amazon.com as a paperback and as a Kindle E-book. (more...)

BWW Reviews: 2 SUGARS, ROOM FOR CREAM is a Hilarious, Poignant, and Relatable Look at Life, Friendship, and CoffeeBWW Reviews: 2 SUGARS, ROOM FOR CREAM is a Hilarious, Poignant, and Relatable Look at Life, Friendship, and Coffee
by Jill Schafer - Jan 12, 2015

Next Sunday, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, two of the funniest women in America, will host the Golden Globes. Until then, we have Shanan Custer and Carolyn Pool, two of the funniest women in the Twin Cities, presiding over a delightful evening of comedy, friendship, and coffee. Their 2008 Fringe hit 2 SUGARS, ROOM FOR CREAM has gone through many incarnations, won an Ivey Award, and has now landed on Park Square Theatre's new Andy Boss thrust stage. Even though this is the third time I've seen it and many of the scenes and characters are familiar to me, it still makes me laugh until I cry, and marvel at the universality of life experiences, and the thing that binds us all together - coffee. From bad church basement coffee to the gourmet stuff at fancy coffee shops, it's a running theme in many of our lives and helps us get through the day, and the long cold winter. This show is a celebration of that, but more so a celebration of friendship and laughter. (more...)
