New Line Cinema's film version of the smash hit Broadway musical 'Rock of Ages' has begun principal photography under the direction of Adam Shankman ('Hairspray'), and not everyone is thrilled about the big screen adaptation. According to Thewrap.com, Broadway producer Carl Levin from Eleven Entertainment claims that the movie owes him more than the $400,000 that was piad to him in producers' fees. Levin filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, July 6. (more...)

'Breaking Bad's' Bryan Cranston is set to play the mayor in the upcoming 'Rock of Ages' film, to be directed by Shankman and based on the Broadway musical, according to Deadline.com. Cranston will play the husband of an advocate who wants to ban rock and roll. That role will be played by Catherine Zeta-Jones and both were created specifically for the movie. (more...)

'American Idol' alum and Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis will soon say goodbye to the national tour of Rock of Ages, according to a recent interview with JSOnline. Maraoulis, who originated leading man 'Drew' on Broadway, commented: 'I've set out and accomplished everything I've wanted to do.' According to the Hollywood Reporter, Adam Shankman has created a role for Catherine Zeta Jone in the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of Rock of Ages. JOne, who is currently in final negotiations for the film, will play a villian character described by Shankman as: 'if Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child. She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock'n roll in the great city of Los Angeles.' (more...)
